How long is that cable and what did you pay for it?
I bought the official Samsung one because I could not find anything longer than 1m. The Sammy one is about 1.5

Will be selling the cables(100cm) with chargers and the USB 3.0 OTG cables soon

From totally flat I get around 45 to 50 minutes charge.
With USB2 it takes around 2 to 2.5 hours.

I'm charging in literally half that time with USB 2.0, going from 1-3% to full - at the 45 minute mark I'm normally passing 80% and the last 5% taking about 15 minutes:confused:

I don't see how charging speeds can change with a different cable, as USB 3.0 doesn't add any power pins.

I did some Googling, it depends on the specific cable, not whether it is USB 2.0 or 3.0:

No difference whatsoever on charging; the difference in USB 2 vs 3 is data transfer speeds.

HOWEVER the difference lies in two things, mainly:
1) The port you're using. Most PC USB ports will only output 500mA, some 700mA, and very rare ones 1A. If you connect your phone to a port with a limited current output, no matter if you use a cable made of unicorn hairs and Irish gold, it will still charge your phone 500mA at a time.
2) The cable rating. If the port you're using can output enough Amps to make charging faster (newer wall chargers will output 1.5 or 2A, typically), you also need a good cable to go along. If your cable came with your phone, chances are it will be able to sustain 2A charging rates without problems. But if you're buying a 3rd party cable, check the Amp rating. USB 2 or 3 won't matter if the cable can only sustain 1A charges.

On the same power supply (wall wort, or 12v adapter) with equal quality cables you will see no difference, on a USB 3 computer with a USB 3 cable, you will see a hugh difference, I have two identical 1.5 amp power supplies, one with the supplied usb 3 cable, one with a high quality micro usb 2, charge time is the same. Any difference people are seeing between the two, on the same power supply, is due to cable length, and or quality, don't buy cheap cables for charging.

i posted this thread as i dint found any comparision time for chargin between 2 diffrent cables. 2.0 vs 3.0

i found the same charging time on both 2.0(regular micro usb) vs 3.0

it seems 3.0 only helps for very fast data transfers.

Your conclusion is misleading. You probably won't find a difference between USB 2 & 3 if you are using data cables as your phone limits it's draw to about 0.5A to protect lower specd USB ports.

If you want faster charging and in particular, take advantage of the higher current that is available from AC adapters or many newer USB 2/3 ports, then you need to use a charging cable. This is not the same as a data (multipurpose) cable. A charging cable has the data lines shorted to tell the phone that you are connected to a high current or at least protected source and it should go ahead and draw as much current as it can use (or is available if the port is current limited, but protected).

Of course, it should go without saying that if you use a power cable with a conventional USB 2 port, you are circumventing the safety protection and may damage your USB port.

Download galaxy charging lite from the play store and check the incoming current. It's the same for microusb 2.0 & 3.0.

Maximum of 1800, usually charges at 1200 w/ screen on.

If you claim that charging is faster with the multipurpose cable, show screenshots.

I'm getting a weird black screen for a few mili seconds after unlocking the device

Quite annoying - Fingerprint enabled for lock screen

Anyone else have / had this issue?

R149 and it's a 1.5 m USB 3.0 Capdase cable. :love:

Samsung should contract them to make decent length cables for their customers.
 
Write speed is normally a lot slower than read speed, so that isn't really an apples to apples comparison. Charge times also shouldn't differ.
 
How to get a S5 for free well sort of.When you get a phone on Telkom Mobile's SmartPlan 100 and you make use of all the goodies the money you save compared to prepaid can pay for a phone.
100 minutes a month @ 75 c per minute = 100 x 24 x 0.75 = R1800
1GB + 150 MB on prepaid mabe R120 per month . 120 x 24 = R2880
Wifi 10 Gb per month.AlwaysOn charges R375 for 5gb so R750 x 24 = R18000
After paying for 5 sms's you get 50 free = 50 x 50c x 365 x 2 = R 18250
Total R 40 930
And I have ignored the free calls to telkom mobile numbers in the first year.To benefit you need to get your whole family on telkom mobile. Yes I know nobody will use all the included benefits but if you are a heavy user the benefits could be more than the cost of a phone.

Yup, the savings with Telkom Mobile are not to be sniffed at.

I don't pay for calls between TM & TM + I have number for life, so don't have to touch my 150 minutes that roll over for six months. :)

Also have 10 GB mobile data and 10 GB wifi data, so very much sorted until my last day on planet earth. ;)

The S5 can serve you for a very long time, you can switch to a sim only contract after you've paid off the phone.

My friend gave me his S5 to set up this weekend. I have a Note 3 and I'm shocked at how small I'm finding the S5. I don't think I can go back to 'normal' sized phones now.

Otherwise I like everything about the phone except the settings design. I think it's awful TBH. Also the back cover. It feels nice, just like the Note 3 black faux leather. But he has the blue one and to me it just looks cheap. Like it's going to peel off any second.

The cable that comes with the phone to charge will always be short because they are trying to prevent us from using the phone while it's charging. That's what I read somewhere. That capdase cable is 1.5m of awesomeness!

Then why would Samsung make the 1.5m cable too? It is just a silly theory. Link please?
