Compared with my wifes S4 the software on the S5 is miles ahead...

Not entirely true. You can upgrade to ANG2 (or already be on it), flash the old NE2 kernel via Odin, root through towelroot and then flash the ANG2 kernel over that to retain root. This does not trip Knox either.

I see that it does not support the Exynos version anyway..... Guess I'm out of luck
 
What USB cable did you get with your S5?

USB 2.0 or 3.0?

Mine had a 2.0 cable :mad: - Quite gay that it supports USB 3.0 and only supply you with a 2.0 cable

We all got USB2

If i need to charge in a hurry or move large files/do backups and restores i use my 1tb Portable drive's USB3 cable.

Is there an actual difference when copying via USB 3? I would think that the NAND read/write speeds would not be up to scratch, anyway...
 
Apparently the Gold devices came with USB 3.0 cable

Yes, you just get a normal charging cable with the S5.

I bought a Capdase USB 3.0 cable at CellC shop, works perfect.

Hopefully the Note 3 cable is longer than the one I got with my S5.

Very mad at Samsung for giving me such a short cable with a flagship phone. :mad:
 
Is it luck of the draw? I got the international Exynos version (32GB SM-G900H, without LTE) with a USB 3.0 cable. I don't think it makes a difference to charge speeds or transfer speeds (I think it was GSMArena that tested it on the Note 3 and found that copy speeds were about the same or very slightly slower using USB 3.0).

I was annoyed that I got a USB 3.0 cable as the idea was to leave my Note 10.1 cable at home and carry the other around with me, but I can't use the new cable on my tablet (I was wanting to charge my tablet and didn't have the charger with me - sigh :p).

I did a backup via USB3. Took 15 minutes.
I did the restore via USB2. Took around 45 minutes.

Not done any testing other than that and charging being about 3 times faster.
