Samsung Galaxy S5

I've just decided to join in and get myself a S5. Going to stagger my contracts 1 year apart :D. Hoping this baby does not disappoint and comes out around March again. If anyone gets a hint at when pre orders open up. Please give me a shout! Definitely interested in getting one.

Latest Unconfirmed specs:

3gigs ram
5.25"
Aluminium/plastic
20Mp camera
2.5ghz quad core
kitkat 4.4.2.

Samsung will pull out all the stops with the S5.

I expect the metal design S5 to sell like crazy and be an exceptional phone.

Yup, it will be the phone to get in 2014. :)

Hopefully my next phone. My S3 will need replacing around June. I really hope the plastic version is identical to the metal version in all other respects.

Haha yeah, my s3 needs to take a little break. Its been good, but i'm really looking forward to seeing what the S5 brings to the party. I was really keen on getting a Nexus 5 but first want to see what Samsung can bring to the table...

and... hopefully a completely revamped touchwizz

The only reason I would never get a Nexus 5 is the virtual navigation buttons. Can't stand them with a large bezel. Every time I used the phone I would just think that the big space along the bottom of the front could easily accommodate navigation buttons.

TouchWiz is receiving a big update apparently. Some alleged screenshots leaked the other day.

I've got 4 contracts. 1 for me, 1 for the wife, 1 for each of the kids.

Last year May, I was first in line to get a S4, October I was first in line to get a Note 3, I already have a contract ready for upgrade since 5th of January, and the last one is in May again. After that the cycle starts again May 2015. I think I'm doing it right :D

So you're taking all the new phones and handing down the old ones? Wow, dad of the year...

I used to have a setup like this then started feeling bad that the family never got the benefit of a new phone when their contracts came up for renewal (always handed mine down).
Everyone benefits at their upgrade time now. When a new Galaxy is released I sell my current one and purchase an unwanted upgrade from someone else. Keeps me current (not on launch day though) and everyone happy.

So basically you sell your old phone, then get a phone that is new, but has been out for a while, forking out some cash obviously. This seems like a lose/lose situation. You get an older phone, and you have to pay for it?

Hey, I pay the contracts, and for someone that gets a free phone, who is going to complain about a new phone every 6 months?

You must have real 'ja pa' kids if they tolerate this behaviour. I have never heard of someone doing this until now. Taking every single new phone in the house... Just wow.

Older as in a week to 2 after launch. Not a killer for about R2k off the going retail price.
My pay-in (difference between selling current phone and getting new) is normally around R1.5k to R2k. Based on the release schedule for the galaxies, that is R3k to R4k PA to stay current.

Sure - I could save if I just upgraded everyone else's contracts and got the phone I wanted, but it's not cool (IMO). It is my own obsession to remain current so now take it upon myself to make it happen and let everyone get what they want at their upgrade time.

As you say though - you pay the contracts so your decision. Not hammering you. I did exactly the same for a while.

screw you buddy, my kids are 13 and 11, im not going to give them a brand new s4 or Note3. Do you have kids?

I totally agree with you on this. The kids can get new phones when they are the ones paying for it.

This new mentality of the younger generation that thinks the world owes them really grinds my teeth.

Okay - that puts a different swing on it. My 2 that have phones are 16 and 17. At your kids age they don't need latest and greatest. As long as you can get hold of them is all that matters.
My youngest is 9 and getting his first phone when he hits 10. It will be a Galaxy Pocket or something. But going pre-paid and buying the phone. Been locked into contracts for the 2 girls since they were 4 and 5.

EDIT: And at 16 and 17 they don't have latest and greatest. They both got S3's. Contracts coming up for renewal so will see what they do.

As much as I would love to get this, I'm going to hold on and wait for the Note 4... I when from Note 1 to S4, cause I was a bit tired of the side of the phone... Then got tired of the smaller screen and got the Note 3... I got spoilt with the screen real estate of the Note series, and will now not get another Galaxy Sx device... I'll Note my way through...

They have pockets at the moment, so first upgrade, the one will get my old rooted s2, my mother in law will get a s4 mini, my wife the note 3, and me the S5, who knows what will happen the one after that.
