Samsung Galaxy S5

Does it still wipe all your icons if you go into ultra power saving and then back into normal mode?
 
So I rooted my device, then because one of my UK banking apps wont work if its rooted, I then used an "unroot" app that fixed the UK banking app. I then installed the ABSA app and it detected that my device was rooted so it popped up a warning. I've now re-flashed (after wiping) with the stock 4.4.2 from sammobile and the absa app still says the device is rooted.

Is there no way to unroot it fully?

I decided to stop complaining and downloaded the Lollipop UK BTU ROM from Sammobile, to give Lollipop another spin, after the unsatisfying Polish ROM experience.

Well, the UK BTU ROM is very nice, but still not satisfying. Tried to ignore Silent Mode, but I came to realize I use it way too much.

I'll give it another go when we get the Lollipop 5.1 UK BTU ROM (Samsung says a few months), for now it's back to Kitkat 4.4.2 UK BTU ROM for me.

*The really weird thing is that Silent Mode works on Lollipop tablets.

Knox maybe got tripped? And once that's tripped it's tripped. afaik

It is odd how one regularly used fearture can deter someone from the rest of what I perceive to be quite a good experience. Lollipop is my daily driver on my N5, but on the S5 I installed KitKat again. To me it is not worth losing Exposed over the mess Samsung made with Lollipop. I don't get the Lollipop feel on the Samsung firmware. Unfortunately it will always feel like a third party firmware that takes away simplicity and replace it with complicated fugly. I do like some of the added features that Samsung brings to the firmware, but they did their best and succeeded too make it look crap. It doesn't even look like Lollipop to me. It looks like a basterdized mix of KK and L.

tl;dr - I'd rather have KK with Exposed than L without it

This is exactly how I feel.... I honestly didn't get the Lollipop magic when I loaded the ROM.

And the Lollipop settings present on your Nexus, are either absent or hidden away on my S5.

Might also be Samsung's new direction with Tizen, where Touchwiz is how you interact with the OS, so whatever is underneath the bonnet, is not important to you.

Anyway, Kitkat is still fabulous. :)

I think on the N5, there is even less functionality given the added features that Samsung adds. The shortcomings of the Samsung fw is the same as for the N5, but the UI is pure on the N5 and that makes up for it. Make no mistake, I would love to have Exposed on Lollipop!

Also I doubt the absa app is checking knox. More likely something like supersu is still installed even though the phone has been unrooted and the crapsa app is checking for that.

But surely KNOX being tripped doesn't matter? If you install any stock rom using odin it'll be unrooted again.

This is true. It may also be that the phone has still got the usb debugging enabled in developer options. Played with an app recently that complained about that.

Also yes, ADH has got nothing to do with knox. People on this forum have claimed ADH will the phone had knox tripped with a custom ROM installed. Samsung doesn't seem to check those things when claiming.
 
Knox is a security thing. The knox warranty guarantees the integrity of knox protected apps and data.
Rooting means removing control from knox and thus it can no longer guarantee the integrity of knox protected data. Hence knox warranty void.
 
thanks for the comments - I'll wait for a decent 5.1 to come out and then wipe and reinstall again and see what the absa app says.

doesn't stop it from working, just pops up a notice every time you open it.

I'll also check the USB thing @faniedry

that said.. does anyone know of a good method of backing up your S5 that includes app settings? being very hopeful here but wiping and reinstalling is horribly tedious and I use the Gmail app for all my email accounts so it doesnt remember any of that..

There are a number of apps that can do this if you are rooted. Best imo is Titanium Backup
