Hi All

Im considering picking up a Gear S2 , saw one in a Samsung store and it looks pretty good , but the person who was helping me could not tell me if I would be able to view Whatsapp messages on it and reply . I did do a google search and it seems that only the last message pops up (not the thread) and that you can reply on the last message .

Anyone here have a Gear S2 and is able to confirm how it works and what your impressions are of it ? Iv looked into some other Android wear devices , but there does not seem to be much here in SA . No one seems to have the LG Watch R and a couple of Vodacom stores Iv tried also dont have the LG watch urban either , but if anyone here does have and are using an android wear device I would appreciate your thoughts on it .

I spend a fair bit of time in meetings and get a lot of messages via Whatsapp from my kids , family and collegues . Its a pain to keep pulling out the phone , a simple glance at the watch would be much better as I can then see straight away if I need to respond and its urgent or if it can wait .

Thanks

You can reply to Whatsapp messages on the watch, last message only, I am happy with my watch. Also have the Sony smartwatch but prefer the Samsung.

Thanks , I had a look at it on Android Authority , but it seems they have made it bigger and what they have added to it is not really going to be of a huge benefit to me and how I plan on using it . Im also betting that it will take a while before it reaches our shores as well .

Thanks , so if you get say 4 messages from 4 different contacts , will you see all 4 messages and be able to reply to them or only the last message ?

Ive got the 1st Gen Moto 360. You can see all 4 messages from all 4 contacts, not just the message but quite a bit of the thread. Android Wear doesnt natively support custom message replies on Whatsapp AFIAK but there are apps that allow you to reply to messages on the watch itself via a pop-up keyboard

Thanks , I did consider the Moto 360 1st gen , but I see they will not be getting the latest android wear update . How have you found it size wise ? Have you got the leather version on metal band version ?

Samsung brings Gear S3 features to last year's Gear S2

The Gear S2 becomes a much better watch with the latest software update.

Samsung has rolled out an update to the Gear S2, bringing the smartwatch to parity on the software front with the newer Gear S3. Gear S2 owners will now be able to download Gear S3 watch faces via the Galaxy Apps store, as well as the new Reminders app and Alti-Barometer.

The rotating bezel on the Gear S2 has picked up more functionality, and can now be used to accept or reject calls, dismiss alarms, timers and alerts. Turn the bezel clockwise to accept a call or acknowledge an alert, and a counterclockwise alert dismisses the notification.

The Gear S2 now comes with a handwriting mode that transcribes characters drawn on the device in Korean, English or Chinese. There's the option to choose from over 180 emoji, or dictate texts using voice input.

The update also adds several fitness-focused features that made their way to the Gear Fit 2 last month. S Health on the Gear S2 will be able to recognize more activities — running, walking, cycling, elliptical, and rowing-machine — automatically, and it will also start counting reps for repetitive exercies like squats, lunges, crunches and star jumps. The Auto Pause feature is also now available on the smartwatch, which pauses activity tracking when you take a break in the middle of your run or cycling session.

Other workout features include Pace Coaching, which lets you set an optimal pace for your jog or run. Samsung is introducing a Stretching Guide function into the Inactive Time Alert, with which the watch will suggest stretching exercises when it detects you've been inactive for an extended duration of time.

That's not all in the update: you also get third-party widgets for apps like Uber, Yelp and USA Today, location-tracking support via Glympse, and access to more games. The comprehensive update definitely makes last year's Gear S2 an enticing option if you're in the market for a smartwatch.

Bigger screen which is easier to use. Being connected to my phone at all times even when I don't have my phone with me, and not having to carry a phone with me when I go to town. I just slap my watch on my wrist.

So if you are connected to your phone at all times, what can you do with the watch when the phone is not around? Read and reply to whatsapp messages? Answer/make calls?

Exactly, which is why I prefer using it plus there's less chance of my phone being "liberated" from me.

Hi Guys

I'm in the market for a fitness tracker and was looking at the new Fitbit Charge2 or the Gear fit 2. (the fit 2 seemed like a good blend of fitness with basic smartwatch functionality)

But the recent updates to the Gear S2 seem to have added more fitness capabilities. Which is making it more appealing as an all round device (both fitness and smartwatch). I gym 2 days a week and play 5 a side footy so i dont need serious fitness stuff and GPS tracking. but would like to use some technology to help me keep an eye on my progress.

May i ask what the experience has been since the latest update? Samsung seems to be supporting the device well. Also, what is S-health like for fitness tracking?

Thanks, much appreciated.

It suits my fitness tracking needs perfectly. Tracks steps, heart rate workouts (which I use for Vitality points), it tracks sleep. Haven't really used any other fitness device. But it works well for my runs, cycling and what not.

thanks mate.

I'm only just getting back into the gym. 20 mins of cardio then a few bodyweight exercises followed by some core. at least for the next 8 weeks and then it'll evolve from there. I also play fives footy on fridays

i'm trying to decide between the gear s2 and the gear fit 2 - if the fitness tracking is on the same level... then the gear s2 will win.... (love that bezel)

Used the Gear S2 for a year, it is a good device it does what is needed and pretty well, the bezel makes it so much easier to use. Used mine for a year but have just upgraded.
