Samsung Mobile SA introduced Ch@t application

MXIT works just fine, and already has a wide user base. Being JAVA based, it is platform/handset independent and even runs on PC. Not much incentives though, but well established and does the job.

What a waste of time, a complete fail. The world doesn't need YET ANOTHER IM platform, that is proprietory and closed off.

What we need is an open standard for IM, that can be used on any platform, any device. We need mass adoption from all of industry.

Having another closed off IM community (like Blackberry Messenger) helps no-one.

Who needs another IM, i want Froyo on my galaxys already. Samsung are such a waste of time sometimes.

Google Talk + Lampiro works fine... AND you can chat with people using other phones... (Or MXit of course...)

We have an open standard, it's called XMPP.

We have an open standard, it's called XMPP.

Yes we have XMPP aka Jabber, but it hasn't seen widespread adoption. We still have the following largely closed off and proprietary IM communities:
- Skype
- MSN/Hotmail
- Yahoo
- AOL
- BBM
- Facebook Chat
- Samsung Ch@t

Use of Pidgin goes a long away to bridging the divide between (most of) these platforms, but it still isn't as seamless as it can be. We should be able to use ANY client to keep in contact with people on ANY platform. We're still a LONG LONG way away from this.
