Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying myself a monitor this week, I'll use it mainly for gaming (on an Xbox), watching movies and with my computer. I'm thinking of getting either the Samsung 2494HS or the 2333SW. Is there a noticeable difference in size between the two? What one should I go for?

Thanks :)

I've heard just good things about the 2333SW, and it's very reasonable priced.

Bought 8 for one of my customers the other day; was pretty impressed even though we only connected with a VGA cable - the unit looks good, shiny and black. Anybody know what is the difference in quality VGA versus DVI btw?

The 2333SW is 16:9 aspect ratio (like the 32" + LCD TV's)
while I suppose the 2494HS is 16:10 aspect ratio.

For movies and gaming, I reckon the 2333SW is superior (because of it's 16:9 aspect ratio).

I am getting the 2494 tomorrow i will let you know if its good :). looks flippin sane though, much rather get that monitor than 2333.

Can someone explain this 16:9 16:10 what is the difference and why is the one better?

16:9 is the aspect ratio used with TV's and such.....

16:10 was just a strange ratio used by the first WS monitors..

I'm possibly going to get myself 2 x 2233's or 2333's next month..... take the monitor complement to 4... think I'll need a new pc tho.. :|

Ok toxic thanx for that but what does that mean in life? :p and why is 16:9 better than 16:10?

2333 is 16:9 and the one i want 2494 is 16:10 why should i get the 16:9 over the 16:10? if it was so bad why are new monitors coming out with it?

If you're going to use it view 16:9 source material.. the 2333 will show it correctly, whereas a 16:10 monitor will have to do some image resizing to make it display full screen....

Well not a BAD thing per se... but 16:9 would be better just from an Image Quality perspective.

Well, I have a T220 with 16:10 aspect ration. Whenever I watch series or movies in VLC, I just change the ratio to 16:10... Some of the quality go to waste with the conversion, but at least the picture fills the whole screen.

But I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you buy, Samsung monitors are really great!

I've got the Samsung 2333SW... it's an amazing screen. I can watch movies and work with the curtains open and still see what's going on. The super wide screen (1920x1080) allows for watching dvds across the whole screen without any unused space.

Thanks for the replies guys, I forgot about the different aspect ratios of the two screens. I think I'll go with the 2333SW because I'll probably use it mostly for gaming and AFAIK console games have a native aspect ratio of 16:9. Although the extra size of the 2494HS would be nice :(

Thanks guys :)

The size of the 2494 is nice, but ONLY for software use. Not for gaming or movies.

I got the 2333SW for around R2150, seen it go as low as R2000. The distributors apparently sell it for R1000 ex VAT....

16:10 is perfectly fine for games! Actually prefer it than 16:9. As for movies, the black bars you get are so tiny that you probably won't notice them.
