Samsung Omnia HD - i8910

I got the same question...

 I'm begging to smell something rotten here..... I found the upgrade contract last night but then discovered that the "sales" person did not have their name on the business card!! So I just spoke to Paddocks a few minutes ago, they r going to check up on who did the upgrade contract:mad:

Now it seems Paddocks don't even know what phone I"m talking about... everytime I mentioned the SAMSUNG OMNIA HD i8910 they guy on the phones asks me if it's the i900:confused: WTF??

Anyway I told him if they don't have the phone by Saturday then they must reverse the upgrade!!

will keep u all posted!!

Sorry to hear of your dilemma, and my apologies for being the one that gave you the bad news initially... :(

Almost everytime I phone to ask about the i8910 they also ask if I'm talking about the i900 Omnia.

I would like to get hold of the contact details for the Client Services Manager and give them a call...

hey all

just my 2cents worth from someone who has been waiting for this phone since march/april...
we not gonna get this phone rolled out very soon...
its not on any dealers lists... so september release is unlikely...
mtn has a very poor customer record on stuff like this...
and vodacom's not interested in this phone cos vodafone uk is not selling the phone in england... its mainly available on orange...

i now all this is generally true for contract subscriptions... but its gonna be DAMN expensive prepaid.

put it in perspective... the samsung jet was launched 2 months ago and its here already... the i8910 has been launched in april, had one product recall, stax of firmware upgrades and so on, and its still not here...
dont take a chance and push for the phone...
wait for the normal general release and then snap it up...

what if you end up with the old firmware stock? then what?
and there's no way spiff is getting his phone by saturday...
mtn sucks, they gonna have to kiss your ass big time on this... make sure they do... like maybe no pay-in when they do release the phone? :)

yip I got that "sinking" feeling after I spoke to the "ignorant one" at the shop this morning - still waiting to for him to return my call!!

So I will be canceling the upgrade!! screw them - I'll get a HTC instead!!

Any idea why it's advertised?

Hey there, thanks for your input - the more the merrier... or something like that.

You may well be right, but do you have any idea why they have the phone listed on their website already then:confused:?

Man, 2 months since I checked and still no 'news' on this phone... it is starting to look bad for me getting this phone. I don't want an unstable phone that is unreliable.

What is the hold-up? Yes, I really want to know.

Trust me we'd all love to know what the hold-up is, and MTN doesn't seem to know, although when I spoke to them yesterday they said that they are waiting on stock of numerous phones, including Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

If we could just get an answer from someone at MTN who actually knows what they are talking about it would help A LOT... :(

Just called the Samsung call centre...

"The phone is in testing along with the OMNIA II (i8000) and will only be released at the end of the year - Dec-Jan 2010 period".

I was really looking forward to getting one of these but if the wait is going to be that long then I think I may just 'settle' for the N97 or one of the HTCs.

Hang in there...

Just hang tight everyone, I've got a feeling it will be available in the near future... just something a little birdy told me ;)

Patience is a virtue...

 Liberty please dude you have tell us man..

Who ever said I'm a dude?...
Anyway, I should know more within the next week (I know it's long but after waiting so long it's not that bad) and guarantee you I will post as soon as I do... ;)

hey guys... why so sad?

i know we all extending our contracts so we can get this phone but look around... this seems to be a damn reliable phone in a class of its own. even guys with the original firmware are loving this sweet little thang...
and besides, while we wait, the nokia ovi thingy will mature(and yes,we'll have access to it), there'll be lotsa cool new apps/hacks/tricks for symbian s60v5 and we forgeting the main part...
since the omnia's been delayed, NO_ONE"S come onto th market with anything comparable... its really next-next generation stuff...

lets just be patient... labour pain is always terrible but once the buggers out, we all gonna be happy...

trust me... i rushed for a phone... kicking myself till today for the mistake... and that phone was the "ULTIMATE AMAZING SUPER DUPER LIFE CHANGING" XPERIA X1. and my verdict everyday for the past 10 months: TOTAL PIECE OF ELEPHANT POO!!! and guess what... im stuck to it for the next 15 months...

so like liberty says... patience is a virtue...
lets all just go to youtube and watch the amazing helicopter video, that hopefully we'll soon be able to watch on a gorgeous 3.8' amoled screen...
hmmmmmmmmm, to wait in anticipation is torture all the same....

report back:

I visited Paddocks on saturday and was also told that NO one knows when this phone will be available in SA:mad:

My upgrade was not for the phone it was from "mycall100" to a "Anytime500" package which is supposedly a cheaper package.

I don't think we will see this phone anytime soon this year:mad:

let us know if u do get one and where!!

while doing the saturday morning mall cruise i noticed the samsung brochure at vodacom 4u has the i8910 HD advertised. so it stands to reason that if the pics and adverts are out, then the phone shoul'dn't be too far behind...
we'll definately see it this year. 4 months is an eternity in phone land and if samsung is budgeting on a 2010 release then they gonna lose out big time. this phone'll be less high-end and closer to midrange if they wait too long...
i bet we'll see it readily available and without a huge pay-in around mid october. like an end september launch with a R4000 pay in...

*sigh* the n97 is looking better and better

Hi, I see you are all keen on the i8910 HD. I have also been waiting since May ... and slowly but surely becoming fed up with the situation. Why is Samsung/Vodacom /MTN so secretive about the phone? What alternatives to the i8910 would you guys suggest?

no real alternative currently... maybe the n97

this is frustrating

Patience pays off!

I don't know if Vodacom is going to stock the handset at all, according to another blogger they won't because Vodafone in the UK isn't stocking it.... but MTN does have it....
I am happy to let you all know that I'm the now the proud owner of an i8910 as of last night!
I got my handset through MTN, although I had to order it from the Midrand store to be delivered to my closet store.

I hope you're all as happy about the news as I was! ;)
