How did Apple start it? Surely Samsung started it when they tried to make products that looked almost exactly the same as Apple's.

No, but if some other car company produces a car that looks almost exactly the same as a BMW, then BMW should definitely use any patents it has (i.e on the Hofmeister kink) to stop the offending car manufacturer that is stealing it's design work

Other device makers showed that unique design is possible and it's not necessary to copy a design, so why can't Samsung? A person can definitely see some influence of an Apple product design in other device maker's products but not enough influence that they can't even tell their own products apart.

Some say it's baseless accusations. I say, wait until you feel ripped off and we'll see if you will just let it go as you claim Apple should've done.

I agree and its unfortunate that Apple had to use patents such as those. But they were pushed into it by Samsung releasing products who's design R&D was shouldered by Apple.
The other manufacturers have managed to release products that don't look like blatantly copied. Samsung could have put in a little effort as well

What happened is that someone copied your car blatantly rather than coming up with their own design.
After you feel ripped off, you use your patents on 4 wheels and a steering wheel to punish the manufacturer that is stealing your design.

i'm just saying, Blackberry, Acer, HP, Dell, HTC, Moto and so many more were able to make tablets and phones that could at least be diffirentiated from Apple's devices. So why is Samsung incapable of making a device that looks at least a little bit different?

There surely must be a difference between using something as an influence and copying?

Apple has lost the position of top smartphone manufacturer to samsung and is now going after them hard trying to get their products banned, also lets not forget apple is also using samsung patents to build their phones especially in the 3g and WCDMA standards which samsung helped develop but are covered by FRAND {Fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms}, so samsung developed something game changing {3g} but are COMPELLED to let apple use it but apple can get away with patenting the rectangle, this seems like a clear abuse of the law and the patenting system by apple, if apple were even moderately interested in the good of consumers they would do what ALL the other manufactures do and license their patents to other manufactures like microsoft does, even through they also have their own mobile OS.

Apple device sales take a dip every year just before a new product is launched. I doubt they're crying about since they're still making more money.
Samsung developed something game changing... True, BUT i'm pretty sure they're not the only one hey... Looked at Apple's product line up recently and how that line up MAYBE boosted their market cap just by a few percent in the last 10 years...
Many companies including samsung invent some impressive stuff but if you look at what, not just Samsung, was doing before and after the iPhone, I's say Apple's design is influencing them in a couple of ways.

I believe the 7" galaxy tab isn't the one in question
