About a week ago, my Samsung SyncMaster 932GW's backlight started to flicker every time I switch it on. After a few seconds (about 10 seconds at the moment), the flickering stops, but the time it takes to stop is increasing. It's like a fluorescent lamp's flickering. Will the screen die soon? Can I send it somewhere to get repaired? Or is it time for a much larger Samsung 2333SW :D?

It will get worse and take up to 10 minutes to come right :D. Get it fixed or be ready to replace in a few weeks :D.

Take it to incredible and get the 27" for 2799 :D

New price for that monitor with trade in is R2999 at incredible...

EDIT: wait February is over so no more trade-ins?

Caps

Sounds like failing caps. You can probably fix it yourself for under R100, of course this will void your warranty if you have one. There should be guides online that tells you how to determine which cap is going and how to replace it.

Same thing happened to my wife's panel. Eventually it died completely. Took it in to Samsung (ok, just some bunch that does the repairs for Samsung in Edenvale), and they replaced the power supply. No charge. Took about 3 days or so.

I often work on LCD panels..it sounds like the ccfl (backlight) is failing, there is usually more than one, depending on screen size. When one starts to fail it shuts down the inverter which turns all of them off..it will get worse until it there is no longer any backlight, you should still be able to see an image on the screen with no backlight (shine a torch on the screen and at the right angle you should see it..obviously it's not workable though).

The repair process for this is to replace the LCD panel..which costs more than the monitor. I have not found anywhere that replaces only the backlights.

Thanks for the helpful reply. I will make sure that it can't be fixed before buying a new monitor though. I don't think it is the caps or the power supply, it really looks like the backlight is failing. Thanks!

Mantech have some good quality Rubycon low ESR 105C 25V electrolytic capacitors that might be suitable. These should last much better than most of the cheaper Chinese varieties. Just check that the lead spacing (pitch) is the same as on the faulty ones.

Rubycon 820uF 10X23mm (diameter:length) with a 5mm spacing (pitch) between the pins. (X 5)

Rubycon 330uF 10X12.5 with 5mm pitch (X 1)

Rubycon 47uF 5X11 with 2mm pitch (X1)

Got capacitors at communica, and fixed my own monitor, and it cost me R12.

Well actually it cost me R1.10 i had to buy capacitors to the value of R10.
