Samsung UA50F5000

Ok guys last thing, what about this unit?
UA40F5500 R5199 ex vat
Yes its smaller but it offers everything I need, I think, and yes unfortunately it is LED and not plasma.
Problem is there isnt anything close to the price in plasma.

Guys I made a mistake :( the PS51F5500 is R7899 ex vat

Marine, instead of spending around R6K now, why not save R2000 and wait until after X-mas?
It might come down to R8000 at makro in January after the "X-mas prices".... it's not that far away, just 2 weeks. It's quite possible they could drop it by 1 grand.

That also gives you some time to check out the TV's a bit more, try out the 3D, etc...

Very good advice, I am going to follow that.

Thanks so much
Yeah that is a great TV but its a bit too much to spend, now

It's not bad.
But I would still rather get the PS51F4000 because it's 51" and it's plasma.

But you're not wrong, it's a good option.

Good Luck, and if the price doesn't go down, maybe you can get a 51" LED, or who knows what other deals?
It's gonna be a long two weeks though hehe :D

When you feel like cracking, just remember this - you are going to sit with it for a long time, so 2 weeks is nothing.
I love the 51", it's a LOT bigger than my previous 42"...but I kinda wish I went for the PS60F5500 now... I guess it can never be big enough, hehe

I have this. Running Plex and Netflix, I am happy. But my viewing distance is about 2m. Wifi is also bliss.

Thats a huge difference  :D

I'll take a photo for you tomorrow of it next to a coke bottle or something so you can see the size, I don't know why but these things always look smaller than they really are in store.
Maybe that will help you in your decision of 40" or 51"

I'll take the photo during the day so you can see the glare, and you can compare my lighting to yours. (to help you decide if plasma will work for your environment)
(I have a large sliding door about 1 meter on the left of it, so i'll provide one with curtains fully open, and also closed (but still during the day)

To the gurus (and apologies marine1 for a slight hijack):

What is the best type of television to watch sport, like cricket, without motion blur?

You can read which is best yourself here
The first result is a good summary imo

While I do not watch sports, I do hate lag.
The biggest differences for me between plasma and LCD are these:
(some might not phase everyone, but for me these are the important ones)

Plasma

The Good:
Better, more Vivid Color, especially at night.
Deeper Black.
No motion blur.
Glass can be cleaned easily, and no scratches.
Ultra wide viewing angle.
Great SD content quality!

The Bad:
In daytime it has more reflection than LCD because of the glass. (it's not as bad as I thought it would be, but it's still there)
IR (Image Retention) - Plasma is not a good choice for Pc usage, or if you display static images for a long time. If you keep the picture on something for too long like a Media Centre GUI or something, you might see traces of it when the movie starts.... it usually only lasts like 3 seconds though and fades away, but it's still a negative point.

LCD

The Good:
No Image Retention at all, so great for static images and PC use.
No reflectivity even during the day!

The Bad:
Motion Blur
In Dark scenes, you might see this "pixelation" artifact around edges. (This may have been improved over the years, or with good models, But I suspect it has to do with the contrast ratio of LCD panels)
Not as good viewing angle - this may or may not affect you depending on your lounge setup.
SD content not very good.

Lastly, whether you take plasma or LCD or LED, take a look at 3D... don't knock it until you've tried it, especially the 2D>3D thing.

The following pics were taken with curtains and sliding doors wide open. (It's pretty bright outside at the moment)

My window is on the left. So if you view the TV from the right angle with completely open curtains you are going to get some reflection. (Second Image)
If you have a window to the side, and the TV is in front of you, you won't have a problem though. (First image)
Looking from the window's angle, you won't see anything either. (Third Image)

The glare seen here is basically worst case scenario I would say. If you close the curtains you won't have any of this. :p
It's a non-issue imo, but I'm just putting this out there so you guys can compare your own lighting conditions.
