hello there BjornD. Sorry bout the bits & bytes error. With that sorted, i'm downloading files at 720 Kbps or 90 KBps. And it differs quite a lot depending on the signal & area you're in. But 720 Kbps is still not up there, right ? What are u using, the supplied USB-Cable ? Will a old pc's usb-port also effect connection?
Although some say the USB 1.1 were capable of +/- 2Mbps and the new USB 2.0 above 10Mbps, so i'm assuming that the old USB port is still kinda "capable" of doin the job, right ? The 720 Kbps download speed i got were actually from a rather new laptop, only 4 months old, so i think it can't be the USB ports then .. AM i right ?

Yeah, i don't think its the usb speed thats the problem...i'm using the standard usb cable aswell. With 720Kbps you definately have HSDPA connectivity, but like you say, it could/should be much higher.
How is the signal there? Maybe its a bad signal.

Check this map http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/3g/coverage_map.jsp and see if you fall into a good zone.

To be perfectly honest...my speeds also vary greatly depending on the signal, but i would definately not be unhappy with 90kbps (and it would slow down the speed at which your money counts down)

Does anyone know if there's a software upgrade available for this phone?

My wife's phone seems to be in need of some kind of fixing...

The screen goes blank, but it still makes all the lovely sounds, and calls are dropped very often.

ZV50 is time consuming

1. As Samsung will agree the ZV50 phone is impossible to use without two batteries. Also proven by the fact that Samsung risked the added cost by including an extra battery.
2. Juggleing two batteries wherever I go resulted in one getting lost a few months ago, maybe including a battery belt clip or wallet would have helped.
3. The waste heat generated also makes the phone uncomfortable to use. (Keypad and Battery)
4. I'm disgusted that the ZV50's phone contacts cannot be edited from Samsung's very own "Samsung PC Studio" versions.
5. The earpiece volume is too low even at the highest setting.
6. The signal strength is unstable resulting in poor speech (Other Phones excel in this area in the same location).
7. Additonal phone chargers for office and the car also proved to be very expensive.
8. Java Applications cannot run in background, a cheap Motorolla V360 can do this.
9. Shame the ZV50 cannot play video in full screen, so whats the point?
10. Now the remaining battery has very little service life left.
11. UNNECCESRY PROPRIETY INTERFACES AND NO EXTERNAL ANTENNA CONNECTION(****ty signal)
12. All this coupled with ridiculous cost of a replacement battery convinces me to never go near a Samsung Mobile again.
13. Seems SAMSUNG is too busy over-engineering with features and ignoring basic ergonomics.
Verdict: Expensive phone and features but low value end product to any consumer.

Samsung ZV50 - Yay or nay?

Hi all, I have a ZV50 and it's over a year and a half old.
I've been on Nokia phones since 1997 and my last Nokia was a 6600. The Samsung ZV50 is by far the best phone I've ever had. Its reception is better that even my 6310i was...

I use it as a Cell phone and modem for 3G/HSDPA modem, and it excels in both. Camera's good, but a flash would have been nice. As for wear and tear, it survives very good as I carry it in my Denim's pocket.

As for battery life, it's not the worst but it hasn't exceeded 3-days on iether battery yet. Also it's a pain finding a descent pouch that lasts, but that's my experience with all flip-open phones so far.

I was also hoping to find a software/firmware update for the phone, maybe get some features to work on PC suite...

But, there is also the saying - if it aint broke, don't fix it.
