Sanral’s e-toll poll shock

I'm sure the entire poll was sugarcoated with alot of wild promises regarding traffic flow,alternative transport,cheap tolls and the unknown factor. So it's difficult to know.

I do however distinctly remember while Sanral advertised how much better traffic will be, statisticians indicated that within a very short after time the project would go live, the increase in cars/population would have nullified the effect. So technically we would be exactly where we were then. The assumption was however , due to tolls, people would avoid the highway and thus improve traffic flow that way.
 
Remember that was back in 2010 BEFORE we knew all the costs and the fact that the collection fees would be so exorbitant!
People were still on a high from the Soccer World Cup and most people didn't even know about the tolling.
So yeah, 48% at that stage is pretty high.
I would venture to say that it sky-rocketed from there up to around 80-90% within a year.
 
What people say they'll do and what they actually do are two very different things. e.g. When faced with a potential black mark on their credit record people are prone to caving. And you can bet your socks that the arseholes that brought about this mess will use all the dirty tricks they can think of.

You know as well as I do the economic impacts of crippling the disposable income of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people in the economic hub of SA...

No use to complain and hope for the best then .. time to man up, take a stand & join the resistance against this atrocity then.

Yes it'll be a disaster. I hope very much that I'm wrong in my assessment of the people.

I'm sorry if it came across as complaining - that was not my intention.

I'd elaborate, but at this stage the best I can do for the e-toll fight is shut up about it. No matter how true what I say is, it'll do more damage than good.

Quick questions for DJ though - is there a anti-e-toll sticker for cars out there? Sorta like the campaign to bring back the death penalty had? People will be less likely to cave if they have publicly committed to "no e-tag for me".
