Sanral: E-toll registrations pick up

Drove past one of their office things yesterday. You could hear the crickets chirping and see the tumbleweeds blowing in the parking lot.

As anger over Gauteng’s e-tolls intensified this week, the company operating the controversial tolling system has revealed that a staggering 170 000 e-tags have been bought in the past few days alone.

And Salahdin Yacoubi, the CEO of the Electronic Tolling Collection (ETC) consortium, claimed that figure could swell to 1 million.

Yacoubi had told the Saturday Star on Thursday that e-tag sales had reached 330 000, but announced yesterday that sales had exceeded 500 000 and that he anticipated this to exceed 1 million units by April 30 when e-tolling on the province’s major highways begins.

I call BS.
 
I walked past an e-toll outlet in Centurion Mall today and it was as full as an ABSA bank branch. More people seem to be registering.

Someone needs to start an e-tag, car vandilizing, syndicate.
Make people too scared to install an e-tag.

If they're not already scared of giving the cANCer access to their bank accounts then nothing will scare them.
 
People are sell outs. They are scared of huge bills at the end if april. Everybody is strapped for cash.

People are obviously not strapped enough for cash.
If people were really strapped for cash they'd boycott the system.
 
More scared of not being able to afford the bill when it comes.

I drove the e road this morning to my sailing club and added up the tolls. About R7.50 each way, eDompas tarriff. Part of my mind says its not so bad, the rest of mind then tells that part of my mind to stfu and gtfo.

Thats the problem....

Your mind goes "oh its not so bad... R7.50 for the trip"... but its R7.50 each way, however many times a month.. it adds up.

Thankfully I don't like in Gauteng, but if this etolling BS comes to Durban, I won't get an etag.. if I have to travel up to JHB I won't pay for a day pass, or the bill...
