Sanral silent on e-toll panel discussion

1. Judges aren't impartial.
2. Constitutional rights to freedom of movement.
3. We did not ask for it.
4. Is that really my vehicle that passed a gantry, and not a cloned number plate?
5. Is it really in the country's best interest that 80% of all levies go overseas?

So, yes, fun days in court are coming.

6. Who drove the vehicle ?

This is not "User pays", it is "Owner pays".

You can only have "User pays" at a manual toll gate.

1. Judges aren't impartial.

Judges can be bought.

2. Constitutional rights to freedom of movement.

Your freedom of movement is not being denied.

3. We did not ask for it.

I did not ask for tax, yet here we are.

4. Is that really my vehicle that passed a gantry, and not a cloned number plate?

Wouldn't surprise me if they get the cellphone networks to prove locations.

Nope.

For sanral but not for the accused.. using tax payers money to bleed dry the tax payers.

I wouldn't mind helping OUTA out in raising those funds. Rather them have my money for a good cause, a cause that i support ,than sanrail. If it comes down to sanrail winning somehow, they'll still have to find me and try make me pay at a personal level.

Limited liability to that company ...

I am in the fortunate position of being able to both do my civic duty (drove the cars under a gantry once or twice to get on the system) and also to avoid excessive liability (I can avoid the e-trolls on my work commute ... with a bit of effort). If I am issued with an indisputable fine for something, I suppose I'll pay it, happy in the knowledge that the amount I pay is far less than the cost of printing, postage and administration for the bills sent to me. I'm pretty sure they are sending bills somewhere, but of course I'm not sure whether I have received anything, or whether the bills are enforceable. I don't mind setting aside R400 or something to pay this one day in the distant future, but that leaves the actual fight to the poor people who don't have any choice but to use the freeway/etollway and don't have the means to set aside their children's education fund for historical transport costs. People in this position should form anti-etoll societies for mutual financial support when they do randomly get efficiently targeted by the evil collectors.

Let's see them issue summonses to all the defaulters when they can't even manage the accounts in a timely manner.

After reading the post by Gary, all i can do is shake my head. This panel is hopeless, and so the fight continues at ground level

Of course. My first thought was that the panel was an eye-blind, i.e. the ANC pretending to address the issue but with a pre-determined outcome, yet every little bit helps. The premier's involvement will certainly raise awareness and add to the voice of discontent over the ANC's lack of ethics & concern for the people .. and he's got the voting results to back him.

Many groups welcomed the decision, including the Justice Project South Africa (JPSA) and the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa), saying it is the “first real platform for dialogue on the matter”.

At least better than Sanral's 'public consultation' farce.

The ANC undertaking to review the system and giving people false hope could in fact be more disastrous for the party than had they just ignored the issue.

They ignored the voters, wonder how well that worked out for them .. ?

Even worse - it is a "non-user pays" - my daily commute, which has no toll roads, has increased by about 20 minutes each way, as those affected by the tolls turn to the back roads to avoid the tolls.

.

I would love to see that... the nightmare trying to consolidate timeframes , phones number etc. What about people having a lift club , would still show them "at the gantry" but not in their car ?

Would love to see them use it in court. Location info isn't exact and doesn't get recorded the whole time.
