hi, i have ordered me the usual play and charge kit for my xbox controls but have been reading and came across some threads about these eneloop batteries.

Apparently they are the shizniz and are great for xbox controls
now before i order me a set of 4 (they so cheap) what the hell is the difference between the 4GB (B) and the 4GB (S) besides the price...both are 800mAh rated

and are they really so great??

The one can handle more charge/discharge cycles and the charge they hold after 1-3yrs also differs.

Never owned any but they have a very good rep.

IIRC sybaritic had some good prices on these batteries in the past FWIW.

The difference is that the "B" version comes in a blister pack and the "S" version in a type of sachet. There is no difference in the batteries itself.

erm unless i bought your xbox elite yesterday..nope
i have ordered me the play and charge kit but pm your price anyway. i know of some one that want those

so sybaritic doesn't seem to have the charger for these batteries. where can i get a charger from?

If you want one of the best chargers, look at the La Crosse chargers on the following page item 1,2 and 4. They are a bit pricey but so are batteries destroyed in a bad charger.

La Crosse Chargers from Take2

They can charge each battery individually and at different rates. It can further test and revive batteries that were neglected.

Out of the 3 which one do you recommend....?

I bought This model a year or so ago because of the 8 batteries included and it was the latest version. I am very satisfied as most of the other chargers allow only two batteries charged in series. If one of the two is damaged it influences the other one too. It has a LCD readout for every of the four battery stations which can individually do any charging mode of AAA and AA batteries even in mixed configuration.

The BC 700 is the older version of the RS-900.

It was quite a bit cheaper then if I remember correctly.

Maha is also often recommended and I think the MH-C9000 is the direct competitor to the BC-900.

I've been reading reports that the BC-900/9009 were prone to overheating and melting. I have yet to determine how common this issue really is, whether it has been addressed and if there is a particular version in which the problem is now fixed. Anyway something to consider.

you cant go wrong with the eneloop batteries. Just make sure that the charger has an option to detect a full battery and stop charging it.

Looks like the overheating problem on the La Crosse BC-900/9009 has been sorted out.

Looking at the Maha MH-C9000 vs the La Crosse BC-900 it seems the choice depends on what you want in a charger. The Maha has more options for setting charging and discharging current, has a break-in mode and higher maximum charging current, while being more complex to configure. The La Crosse is easier to configure, shows information on all batteries simultaneously and looks like it has a better cycle mode, but it's default charging current of 200mA is considered too low.

The BC-700 is almost identical to the BC-900, but does not come with any batteries or other accessories and has lower maximum current.

With the La Crosse RS 900/BC 900 the default charging current is 200mA but you can choose any higher rate up to 1000mA if you so wish. The same choices are available for discharging.

I agree with you that the overheating problem of the La Crosse BC-900/9009 must have been sorted out as I have not felt any abnormal temperature with the La Crosse even when charging 4 AA batteries at max. current.

The Maha seems to be favoured by the guys who want more control. The La Crosse has fixed current options where the Maha it can be set in 100mA increments. Also on the La Crosse the discharge current is a fixed ratio to the charging current. Both look like good sophisticated chargers overall.
