It seems SAPO is trying to get hold of Amazon, to find out why they were cut out of the loop. I can understand why, an important gravy train / income stream is taken away from them now, and they have many hungry mouthes to feed. Those fancy Amazon packages looked oh so tasty and desirable when they arrived at the customs depot every day. Now it has dried up!

"Dear Amazon!

This is SAPO (South African Post Office)! We dimand to know why you stop sending us packages! We deliver excellent service that surpass any other country's postal service, including Brazil! Please keep on sending packages, we need them! It supports our excellent economy! Please respond and action!

Ignorance of this request will be seen as an international act of racism! We will keep our Africa and you can keep your river!

Kind regards!,
Lungile Lose!
ps.: !"

:D

Johannesburg - The SA Post Office is trying to contact internet retailer Amazon.com for further details on why it offers limited shipping facilities to South Africa after a report that this was due to theft.

"It was a surprise...unexpected," said Post Office spokesperson Lungile Lose on a report in Business Day that theft had made the retailer decide that deliveries to South Africa would have to be done by private courier costing around R400.

I doubt picking up the phone and calling the help line would be the way to get hold of the right people to talk too.

Nevertheless, those comments on that article are awesome, have a read. They put the guys on this forum to shame!

well if the decision was taken yesterday US time, by the time Lungile was being interviewed the US could have been closed.

pah!! I order my Music from Japan... 600 yen and it's here in 2 weeks! :D

They know without Amazon their kids wont be getting christmas gifts! :D
Poor kids.... mommy and daddy wont have any post too search through fot them :D

Items from Amazon passed through other international postal service providers from their depots around the world so they would like to talk to Amazon.com about which part of the route was problematic.

The South African part...

The Post Office had installed specialist technology, including cameras at sorting centres, and had established a crime and ethics line for postal workers to report any suspicious behaviour.

Oh Pleeeeze............. Another 20 jobs created, cause camera monitors need to be watched and another 20 jobs to man the "suspicious behaviour" call centre!! They will be so very very busy, wont they..................?

And another politician to teach people what integrity mean/is, do you find politicians like that?

Wake up SAPO!!

He said that for the period 2007/2008 there had been 699 reports of mail theft and that there was a 99% success rate when pursuing these cases.

...of the 1% caught.

Whenever I have order parcels from Amazon using the non-priority option they never
ever get here. I find it strange that they mentioned the SA Postal Service and
my goods always went missing in Germany and then Amazon customer service
acts stupid!!!

The probably cannot find a company called "Amazon" in either the SA Whitepages or a Brazilian phonebook.

hahah... tho

i remember reading a blog with this dude who was complaining about fraud on amazon and couldnt find their contact numbers...and the only one he found was a recording saying "contact the online support"

or something...

but lol still @ the 99% thing.

Is the SAPO part of customs? Customs belong to SARS afaik. The only income SAPO loses though this is their income from delivering the packages to you.

So how is this going to effect Take2's prices...I wonder? Or do they get courier service already, seeing that they probably buy in bulk. I assume amazon.uk will follow suit. Damn, there goes my movie collection.
