SAPO trying to contact Amazon!

The Amazon is taking a drastic step by choosing a private Courier, because their sales could drop to Zero. The Country itself got its own issues when it comes to Finances. the Government is also warning the public to limit their purchases due to high interest rates. OR IS AMAZON ALREADY FAT WITH SOUTH AFRICAN MONEY? ? ?

I don't think South Africa makes up even 1% of Amazon's sales, dumping us is not going to reflect on their profits.

According to a radio interview today, Wantitall can supply anything that Amazon.com supply.
I presume they will order from Amazon and then redistribute ( to the Post Office ?? ).

If there's anyone from Postnet reading this, can't you guys bypass SAPO and set up an alternative route from amazon.com at normal postage rates? There must be enough parcels to make it worth your while. Obviously, you'd only deliver to Postnet Suites - that should put a dent in PO Box rentals

It seems SAPO is trying to get hold of Amazon, to find out why they were cut out of the loop. I can understand why, an important gravy train / income stream is taken away from them now, and they have many hungry mouthes to feed. Those fancy Amazon packages looked oh so tasty and desirable when they arrived at the customs depot every day. Now it has dried up!

Remember the international perception of Africa over there might be different.
It was mentioned yesterday that Nigeria and SA are both blacklisted, therein lies the problem. Its probably the Nigerians in SA, shame the poor victims of xenophobia

The only purpose the installed cameras are used for, is to know when a new delivery as arrived, for the... collection to commence

I order from Russia and Telkom ADSL delivers in seconds.

Amazon ship stuff using Deutshe Post. It gets routed via Germany.
Sweden also gets used sometimes by other retailers and Swedish Post.
I think its because of DHL itself, which is part of Deutsche Post,
DHL Worldmail is DP surface or DP airmail.
Its sort of like SAL which is the Japanese Surface Air mail. Stuff is taken by ship to Germany and despatched from there by air OR it goes from German
warehouses. The route mail takes from Amazon is quite curious.
It's almost like drop shipping services.
I presume that they order from wholesalers and then ship without ordering
from Amazon which sells to consumers. Same for Take2.

The few times I've ordered through Amazon a courier service came to my door. Definitely not the PO, they can't even deliver my mail from Joburg itself!
Doubt it, do we even show up on the income sheet under South Africa, or "other country"... lol

I don't mind paying for a service. Last month needed books the same week, ordered on Tuesday, got it by Friday. R950 delivery cost though.

It would be a strategic move of one of the bigger courier services to setup a deal with them now.

I still don't know how the Post Office is part of this? I order packages from them, and a courier service delivers it? Who goes to a post office to pick it up?

You've been using the expensive service then, I've picked everything up I've bought from Amazon via Post Office. Just out of interest, how many of you who have had items stolen/lost sent it to a PO box rather than a physical address?

Maybe a new thread regarding this with a poll can come in handy? Yes , maybe the "5 day speed service goes another route? How long do you normal wait/what option do you choose?
