Been ordering from Amazon since 1998. All items received via PO without any problems.

I order using the expedited shipping option (slightly more expensive than normal airmail, guaranteed to arrive in 3 weeks, it was a really good deal).

Never had a problem over the past 10 years and I order quite often. Damn shame this, I will not pay a premium to Fedex\DHL. Amazon was really straight forward to deal with compared to the local companies with their on again off again "we have stock, oh wait we don't" service\crap selection. I will probably switch to Kalahari.

people have to remember that here isn't like the rest of world, in Jap. Nz Aus they might not steal your milk from doorstep, here they will drink it and brake the bottle on your doorstep.

Why not switch to another international retailer. There are quite a few
and most are cheaper, have a wider selection than Amazon and
offer cheaper courier and standard shipping.

Whoooaa, the huge Amazon was not able to negotiate better shipping terms

YesAsia are an expensive rip off. Look at their DVDs/CDs and compare
to CDJapan or Amazon.JP. Avoid YesAsia like the plague.

Their Japanese DVDs/CDs get imported from Japan then resold as
YA is a HongKong based business. Buy Japanese from Japan.

There is also another HK based DVD/game store, name slipped, its much cheaper.

Be warned that DVDP USPS is very slow. It can take as long as 6 weeks so please
don't mess it up for everyone and contact them too soon, wait the 6 weeks first.
We don't want DVDP to stop shipping to SA too.

What does that have to do with anything? They played the race card on the radio this morning aswell in connection with this matter. Surely if people are importing stuff, (and yes I did that myself extensively in the past as PeterCH will attest) that means what's available here is kuk. And it is so.. Even back in 2000 I was sick of lame excuses of SA outfits...

That actually does not surprise me. They also help themselves mainly to CD/DVD in your luggage @ OR Tambo.... Why? A lot of the kinds of people who do these crimes I guess are into DVD/CD collecting as, DVD collections and size thereof is sort of like a status symbol presently in SA. The other possibility is they are stealing these disks and providing the okes who sell at the robots with copies or they send the files to syndicates..
 
DVD/CDs are small and expensive and there is always a market for them.

Why would someone steal say... books or kitchenware then.

Altho, I've had some atypical stuff pilfered too, hobby based models,
what someone did with a 20cm bookshelf model figure is ...???

What "bad things" have you heard about Wantitall? I (and I'm sure others here) would like to know this as it will help me make purchases from them in the future.

That's a bit harsh. I buy mainly HK and Korean DVDs from them with the occasional R1 DVD. I've had nothing but good service from them, and there were times (twice, IIRC) where they bumped up my shipping from standard to Express for free, but that was at their discretion.

I've never used Play-Asia before, but I will give them a chance in the future.

Only buy Japanese, since you quoted "Japanese" there are better/cheaper/Japanese sites to buy from. YesAsia IMO
is an Amazon wannabe but offer more exp pricing/fewer options/clueless support.

www.hkflix.com is a great HK/Korean DVD site. It's American.

Anyway in my experience - Play-Asia, HkFlix, CDJapan and Amazon JP were better and cheaper.
They also offer discounts, esp CDJapan, which gives you vouchers and points, plus
cheaper registered shipping.

I just don't like YesAsia's prices and shipping option. They're too expensive for a mainland Asian
shipper, they're more expensive than actual Japanese shops, which says a lot!

I've had a number of Amazon orders not arrive(books and dvds), one of the orders Amazon got back 3 months later it had been returned to sender, Amazon told me the box was shredded and dirty.

My last few have been via courier, but the problem (apart from the cost) is that you're only allowed 3 orders via courier per year, otherwise you've got to sign up as an importer and your orders have to be below R500 otherwise you incur import duties.

Your orders have to be below R500 per year combined. Whether you're a business or not (importer or not)
(as gifts) to not incur tax charges. You can have however a 1000 orders of say R100 each and those
don't get processed either, customs don't charge if each package is below a certain value, I think it's
R120 or so.

If you're self importing (for personal reasons - not as a business)
you don't need to register as an importer. I tried once and the application
was not processed. I mean I would get as many as 40-50 items per
year and CUSTOMS DO know about it! They have the details on
their system. I would even get boxfulls of 30-50 DVDs (yeah big
money waste - in the pre-broadband days) and customs
would process it and happily give me the items.

Amazon courier is EX-PENSIVE. Did you see how much CDUniverse charge
for Courier? In fact everyone charges less.....

Two of my orders from Amazon last year where over R500 and I had to pay import duties on both.

Logitech sent me a warranty replacement earlier this year via courier and UPS wasn't allowed to deliver it until I had filled in an importers form.

That was UPS covering it's ___. I had that with UPS once but told them to deliver and they did. It's only UPS which does it. I had that with them 2 yr's
back or was it 3. Since then no-one at DHL, UPS, FedEx, TNT or EMS
or customs (where I go regularly to collect stuff - some stuff arrives
without invoices) has told me anything of the sort. And I did fill the forms
in once and hand submitted to SARS in CT.

As for getting taxed, thats right - a single item of R500 will get u taxed,
however multiple items of R100 will not, customs don't bother, its too
work intensive for R25.
