SAPO trying to contact Amazon!

Fat with S.A. money? You've got to be kidding me. A whole delivery van full of Amazon stuff arrive at our offices every day. You have no idea how popular Amazon is in the US and UK. Free delivery mostly, and it arrives without fail, even with "super saver" (ordinary mail).

I've never ordered from Amazon while in S.A., but I've ordered a fair bit of stuff (mostly books, CDs, DVDs) from overseas and I've exchanged loads of stuff with family in the US (both directions). After the so-many-th parcel that simply never arrived, or took 4 months to show up, I started using registered mail or courier and simply paid the price.

Interesting thing is, with registered mail, it's only traceable until it crosses the border. If I send something overseas with registered mail from S.A., I can't trace the overseas part, but I haven't had anything go missing this way. And stuff arrive surprisingly quick too. Sending a registered parcel from the UK to S.A. is only traceable until it enters S.A. - from thereon you just have to hope it makes it.
 
According to feedback given to CapeTalk, the lost items seems to be mainly DVD's. Not one person who SMS'd the station or talked on air has said that their book order had not arrived.

That why this infuriates me so much. I send something with registered mail from Johannesburg to the US, it arrives the same week. :eek:

So obviously they're capable of doing it right. But see, with registered mail they're accountable.

Read that again:

Why the hell does accountability only come in a special operation mode? Why not make it part of the regular service?
 
it's the bloody thieving postal workers who are to blame, o yay now the postal workers union aren't going to be happy (there's no crysis) well #$%@$# them:mad:

I think Amazon could use USPS Global Priority Express (reg mail)
too, but because of the way they op they use DHL for everything
(Worldmail) that is.
 
I note that the PO is trying to contact Amazon.

My guess is that Amazon tried to contact the Post Office and did not manage to progress any further than Eeeisssh! at the switchboard.
 
SAPO taken a turn for better or just managing public perception...
Time will tell...

SAPo get what they deserve

I have had two parcels arrive this year with the boxes torn open by SAPO.
Their cameras mean eff all as the theft is either done at branch level or by the drivers on route or not in view of the cameras.
I am still waiting for feedback, like that’s going to happen.
Well done Amazon, hopefully they stick by their decision!!

Actually the one theft had a funny response - police case was opened in Sandton - now I have been mugged, robbed, high-jacked and the police have done zero, nothing, so anyhow open a case of theft against the post office in Sandton and 24 hours later I get a phone call asking if I want trauma counseling - only in Sandton, was tempted to say yes, dealing with SAPO is always traumatising but I said its cool, I'll manage!

lol If this was America where meds and guns are basically mandatory, I think a whole lot of our Post offices would be shot up. Say goodbye to school shootings, hello to post office shootings, telkom shootings, eskom shootings, home affairs shootings etc

Seriously though, I'm glad that you're OK after being mugged, robbed and hijacked. I've been robbed (house burgled) twice, but I get pissed off more when my packages are delayed by the Post Office. Go figure.
 
These buggers don't just steal from Amazon either. I used to order a lot of music from Germany & the UK, with tracking numbers et al. As soon as it enters SA, they tend to "vanish". Phoning SAPO or customs ALWAYS ended in utter frustration.. somewhere in SA, there is some post office worker listening to some weird industrial..:(

I've had some luck in that regard. Also, tend to rather buy from local sites (www.rebelrock.co.za), and they are quick too. The chances are that your CD ended up hanging from a mirror, fighting the corroding effect of UV light.
