SARS - Customs & Import Duties

Aaaargh!!! Just ordered R3000 worth of clothing and have to pay R4000 to release. R1500 for dishonesty wrt to the pricing that the company gave vs what I paid for it. WTH!!!
Lol.
You can try refuse the delivery and have it returned to sender, get a refund from the seller. That doesn't always work but ask the seller, some of them don't mind.
Damn they actually fining for that now lol
Always been like that, seems they are getting more strict with it even for relatively cheapie eBay orders.

I want to Order 3 pairs of Converse shoes from Japan they make the best quality worldwide incl USA, The Cost is R3000. How much will I be fleeced once they arrive in SA

Shoes are about 35% customs and then add 15%vat.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The brand is sold Locally but are also imported not locally manufactured would that be a factor?

Make sure they aren't Japanese sized, their clothes are sometimes 2 sizes smaller than the same size in Sa/USA.

Google Converse shoes Tokyo Japan and check our local stuff compare quality and judge for yourself.

When you said they were imported I thought they were imported from Japan. Also wouldn't buy locally made.

Hi guys, this seemed to be a very useful thread.
I am ordering a Football shirt from Everton's official website. Will I face import charges when it arrives here, and if so does anyone have an estimate of how much?
Thanks in advance

Get ready to bend over and take it with no lube...

Import duties on textiles (including tshirts) is 45% and then you pay VAT on 110% of the value including duties.

So if the shirt was R1000, you will pay R450 in duties plus another R240 in VAT. Then whoever is shipping it is likely to charge you clearance fees as well.

In summary, be prepared to pay whatever the shirt cost again in duties, taxes and fees.

That is mental. If I pay for express delivery I'm assuming the same thing applies? They can't skip taxes and imports right?

Express Delivery will probably use DHL. They're excellent and will handle all customs stuff. But they will also add their own fees.

But everything goes through customs and they WILL charge you all the costs as indicated by @Jehosefat

You'll pay double at least of the cost of the shirt.

Standard is completed this side by Post Office...you'll never see your stuff.

Duties on clothing is there for a reason to encourage people to support local. It would be mental to have customs like that on electronics.
