Done and dusted. No audit and just short of R12k on its way back to me

Damn - request for supporting documents :(

Phew, that's serious coin! Care to share your trade secrets? Do you have your whole family on medical aid (would that be 5/6 members) that you're claiming for, or do you have a lot of travel expenses that you claim back?

Submitted but got some silly message:
Please note that your return cannot be processed immediately due to an outstanding Tax Directive. Therefore, manual intervention is required. SARS will advise you as soon as your return has been assessed. LUMP SUM DECLARED BUT DIRECTIVE OUTSTANDING

Two silly amounts received from an employer from 2005, dam I'll need to wait for them to come back to me.

Myself, wife and child on Medical Aid along with RA

In my case the RA contributions just about cancels out the small rental profit I made, so the RA is why I am getting money back.

Wish they could introduce the 27.5% retirement funding tax benefit thing, bloody useless unions holding it up! Grrrr

The interesting thing for me is that one gets a fixed Medical Aid credit per person per month back, not a percentage of your medical premium back (like I'd have assumed). I saw on SARS' website that it's meant to be R270/person/month (for primary person and first dependent), but in reality it seems a little lower because I got a bit less back than expected.

This implies that people on cheaper medical insurance plans/hospital plans technically benefit more than people on more expensive plans, purely from a 'percentage back' point of view. In fact, you could end up getting 50% of your year's hospital plan premiums back, purely from this tax credit, right?

That sucks Hemi ... why are they bringing up an amount from 2005 now, or is this the first tax return you've filed since then?

Nah, got a measly amount this period from the sale of a building. Not gonna affect too much but the delay........ Need tyres for my double cab :-)

OK, just submitted my supporting documents for verification.

Anyone know how long they took to verify? I seem to recall up to 30 days the last time I was selected for verification - this was several years ago...

Filed. Then noticed I missed something on my medical aid contribution. Filed again. Now I received a notification to submit documents. Though, the first line says that if I made an error I should just submit another application (which I did). "Alternatively, if you cannot find any error, please submit relevant copies" etc, etc. I rectified my mistake, so do I still need to submit documents? My first IT34 wasn't flagged, but the revised one is. Should I worry, or just give them a call in the morning?

This is the first year where they prompted me to submit additional documentation without saying what that is.

Pretty sure its because they owe me a chunk of money. Oh well. :/
