SARS E-Filing 2015

It was stated in last year's SARS thread that the medical certificate is SARS acceptable. I was verified by SARS this year and they did not ask for any individual slips

Thanks. I stand corrected. You don't by any chance have a link to prove this?

@Flash: Does SARS notify you once they've completed the audit?

Yebo. I received an email from SARS to say a new letter has been issued. I then logged into efiling and the latter stated blah blah blah, with reference to the verification of documents, no adjustment has been made to the tax return. I read into this that it all checked out and I had my refund 48hrs later

How long did it take them to audit you?

A friend of a friend who knows one of the Prod developers at SARS says there's a problem with the system that's why some of the refunds haven't been paid out.

As a friend of a friend who knows one of the Prod developers at SARS, cant you ask what the conditions are for Audit = y and Audit = n?

Submitted tax return at 8:30pm on 30/06
Submitted all documents for verification at 9pm that same night
Received notification and subsequent letter saying all good - proceed to refund @ 3pm the next day (01/07)

Remember I was pretty near the front of the verification queue at that stage hence the rapidness of it

Thanks for the info. Hopefully the volume of my audit will let them move swiftly with mine. Only 1 IRP5 and that is it.

SARS hasn't ****ing paid me!!!

Looks like the fault is mine actually - I called SARS and they informed me that my 2012 return was never filed and as a result, they are withholding any refunds due to me. So I logged on, and there it was, sitting there for the past three years, unfiled... I must have forgotten to file it or something because I did everything to it... Turns out they owe me R4300 for that year! SARS better have my money! I am surprised that SARS has not for the past three informed me that my 2012 return was 'outstanding' ...

I would not bank on that to be true, but a good rule of thumb is to supply as little info as possible. If you submit all your claims to the medical fund, I would use the certificate as proof of my out of pocket expenses IF SARS asks for it. If they reject that and ask for more info, I would send a summary of all my medical expenses (date, doctor, amount). Only if that fails will I submit the actual slips.

Medical expenses have proved to be a headache especially with families where the medical aid is in the husbands name, but as often happens the wife pays most of the out of pocket as she takes the kids to the doctor and does the shopping. You are only allowed the deduction if you paid for it yourself (as in the husband can only claim it if he physically made the payment). Therefore I would not just send slips as they can pick up if someone else paid for it.

Ye mine also got paid in today after submitting on the 1st,sent support documents on the 1st as well.

Back from leave.

Just to update: I didn't get audited and money was in my account 2nd day after submitting :)

HA!

They just informed me that mine from 2011 was outstanding, also owed money from that. However, when I log in, it only shows my 2015 return on the front page.

We shall see I guess...we shall see.

I also called them and apparently I haven't submitted for 2009 and 2010....the thing is though the job I was doing then was well below the SARS requirement and as such I never recieved or never had to submit anything. Now I have to get an statement from the police and go to my nearest and dearest SARS branch to sort out....

This grinds my balls too. Wife doesn't earn over R 350k a year. And she has a choice to submit. However, every year she gets told that her submission is outstanding... We just do it now and get it over with. Not worth the headache.
