SARS E-Filing 2015

I also called them and apparently I haven't submitted for 2009 and 2010....the thing is though the job I was doing then was well below the SARS requirement and as such I never recieved or never had to submit anything. Now I have to get an statement from the police and go to my nearest and dearest SARS branch to sort out....

You should just request your 2009 & 2010 tax returns on your efiling profile and submit them. This is what I do for my clients without any issue or having then go to SARS.

Have done... some call centre ppl are helpful more than others....so I submitted my 2009 and 2010...and for 2010 is am golden however 2009 I was selected for verification, uploaded my docs immediately so I guess I have to reset the waiting clock again.

HA!

They just informed me that mine from 2011 was outstanding, also owed money from that. However, when I log in, it only shows my 2015 return on the front page.

We shall see I guess...we shall see.

Same case, missing submission from 2009 it seems which doesnt reflect at all. My 2015 payment is being withheld because of that issue. Now to try find my 2009 IRP5..

New system was installed this year which seems to be flagging this stuff.

If you go into SARS they will have it on system. I had an issue like that for 2003 - 2006 submissions. I searched high and low even trying to contact old employers. No success. Went in to SARS and they printed them from the machine, did the submissions and bam, done. The problem was the damn queues though /shiver.

NEVER AGAIN !

Alternatively just do a search for the year of the return you need and submit it on efiling. Did that and it was easy.....now just waiting on them to verify my docs for 2009 return. Hopefully this will completed soonish...as I submitted my docs immediately once it was requested.

Just got an IT34 update. I owe SARS R1500, but my balance is R-R2500. So they declined my Medical Aid claims, but approved my travel it seems. Oh well. Better than nothing, eh?

Thanks for the info, the queues there kill me.

Im with the same employer so I think it should be fairly easy if my boss still has the relevant stuff, otherwise on a little mission I will go..

Tried this, I just need the origin IRP5 now to fill in the details.. system is blank.

Mine was blank....I accidentally submitted instead of save (was called into a meeting) few moments later received a notice for verification, submitted my IRP5 and now I gotta wait...not sure how badly I screwed myself now.

I would not bank on that to be true, but a good rule of thumb is to supply as little info as possible. If you submit all your claims to the medical fund, I would use the certificate as proof of my out of pocket expenses IF SARS asks for it. If they reject that and ask for more info, I would send a summary of all my medical expenses (date, doctor, amount). Only if that fails will I submit the actual slips.

Medical expenses have proved to be a headache especially with families where the medical aid is in the husbands name, but as often happens the wife pays most of the out of pocket as she takes the kids to the doctor and does the shopping. You are only allowed the deduction if you paid for it yourself (as in the husband can only claim it if he physically made the payment). Therefore I would not just send slips as they can pick up if someone else paid for it.

I disagree. Medical bills are per family and as a long as yoh csn prove that youbare married. Th ey will accept it for husbanf ir wife

Whilst I agree with you that it should be like that, I promise you this is not the case. You can only claim medical bills as a deduction if you paid for it yourself. If not, they will need proof that you reimbursed your wife/husband. Or they need some viable explanation.

Also, in some cases medical bills are disallowed if there is no proof of payment.

I can understand why SARS does this, because by putting the medical aid and claiming expenses in the name of the spouse with the lower income if the other spouse is a high earner, you can get a much bigger claim. All good and well if said person actually pays for everything but often its the high earner who pays everything. So pro tip, put the medical aid and bills on the lower income earner, make sure that person pays everything and you can get a bigger claim due to the 7,5% rule. If you are the higher earner just pay that amount to the lower earner (eg the medical aid premium) in the beginning of each month and let the debit order go off their name. As spouses can donate to eachother without limits, the law is kind of moot but its how it works and not very practical.

Submitted on the 4th but still no change to my bank account.

I didn't receive a notice that I was going to be audited but this seems like an awful long time although it seems like it's luck of the draw when it comes to SARS.

:(

Call them and find out. I had the same issue last year and then had to go to their offices to get it sorted out. Error on their system stopped the payments.

Just called SARS and it seems like there's an outstanding tax return for 2012 which I have to do. No biggie though, I have to say the SARS call center has some of the friendliest people ever.

Same here. I have dealt with them a couple of times. I think SARS, along with the Auditor General and Public Protectors offices are a shining example of how things should be run.

But a government can not afford to mess up revenue collection services... I hope even the ANC knows that.

I just submitted my 2012 tax return and I'm getting an extra R1000.... Yep, I'm so getting a tattoo....

No penalties? I think it's R500 per year outstanding.

I had to do 2007 and 2008 and paid R1500 in penalties in 2009 for those.

If so then then I might owe them R1500 but the 2012 ITA34 says Amount: R-1260.00. This is so confusing

I didn't think I had to do 2012 as I was getting paid R6000 per month that year... Oh well
