Any news about the RA or pension fund contributions that should have been carried forward?

If it was not carried forward on your assessment you would need to dispute the assessment. SARS has not been maintaining these carry overs for a while now. if SARS maintained it, it will carry forward, if the case is flagged as not maintained it carries forward a 1. If you see that on the assessment dispute it and asked for it to be rectified.

My moms ones all carried forward fine over all the years. Just this year it's suddenly a R1.

And not one person here has said that theirs carried forward correctly into this year.

I just want to say thank you to everyone on this topic for all their input. By following all your explanations I was able to get some insight into what is happening with my tax. I was totally in the dark.

Next up: how to take a screenshot.

Same as mine. Sucks. I submitted it on the 30th already, for no reason, due to the reasons mentioned before.

I did mine Saturday(1 /07/2017) at 9am and mine was showing all blank on statement until this morning it was reflecting the amount and data. No Electronic Refund!

My sister did hers Tuesday and her one showing Electronic Refund.

Submitted mine now. IT34 received 5 minutes later. R1900 refund.

This drew my attention
1. Contributions from 1 March 2016 to 28 February 2017: R95,890.00

I need to change my medical aid plan ffs.

What plan are you on currently?

I cancelled my Discovery medical aid a few years ago coz I was convinced I was going to get it cheaper elsewhere.

After a month and a bit I realised nothing was gonna be cheaper. Then I had to ask them to re-activate it. Had to pay the fee for the month I missed as well, or re-apply from scratch, so had to pay 2x my premium that month. It wasn't pretty.

I'm on discovery, that's not an option, but classic comprehensive may not be optimal

And I thought my R43 000 odd for my wife and myself on Discovery Classic Delta Saver was rough lol. Still, the peace of mind it gives me almost makes it worthwhile. Top tip: my health insurance broker says that's the plan herself and all the other health insurance brokers she knows are on, so it's the optimal balance of cost and benefit.

More on-topic, I'm annoyed to say that my assessment amount is still showing a negative amount, not the Holy Grail of Zero (although I was surely one of the first to submit my return at like 05:30 on Saturday!).

Isn't the government planning on scrapping the medical aid rebate in order to use it for the NHI? If so how long do we still have? The medical aid rebate is the only cash I get...

I don't get any refund for medical aid... I guess it's already factored in

On the SARS core system these things needed to be checked manually and marked as maintained prior to 1/3/2016. This was to prepare for the retirement reform. The reason for this was due to the fact that SARS was not attending to the system follow-ups generated when assessments were processed out of sequence. SARS basically had no way to tell which records were correct and which records were not.

Obviously due to lack of resources all records were not checked and marked as maintained. Then an 'executive' decision was taken to default unchecked records to 1. So disputing these assessments are the only option.

So somewhere out there in the world someones RAs carried forward correctly? I wish one would come onto MyBB and tell us.

It was probably one guy they entered the zero in for correctly, before it seemed like too much work and just defaulted everybody else to 1. I'm guessing the one guy who had it correct had a surname that started with a G or a Z, however.

So I received the right IRP5 after many e-mails. They sent me my 2015/2016 one so I had to wait another day for the 2016/2017 one as I requested.

Now, is it necessary to wait for SARS to deny my return and only afterwards submit the NOO with the correct IRP5 document or can I fast-track it somehow?

Best would be to request a correction.

You will get a letter stating that your current verification failed (or something to that effect). You will get another letter stating that you have been selected for audit and need to submit supporting documents. Practically there is very little difference between verification and audit (at least at this stage)
