Me. As of last year I finally got my daughters medical stuff qualified as disability deduction. Hence my tax return for last year was up about 450% on a fairly small claim of 17K medical expenses. This year I will be claiming for 90K I suspect so will be interesting to see how that turns out in terms of my return. Still waiting for all my tax paperwork though.

I need to do the same for my sons OT and Speech theraphies as he has been diagnosed as needing remedial and special schooling now so can claim.

@ Cius & Kosmik, just make sure your'll have all supporting docs ready, so that if flagged by the system/audited (it sounds like the first time for both, so the chances are highly probable), it will be easier and faster for your'll to have the documents on hand to upload for processing.

What are the changes?

My understanding from HR is that the km's you drive from home to the office can no longer be claimed. So even if you don't travel to the office everyday ( which I don't ) you can only claim for the km's that would be over and above the km's you would travel to get to work and back.

Maybe someone here can clarify?

Been like that for a while. If you drive to work site first and then your office, you can claim but only the mileage thats not part of your NORMAL commute.

Ahh okay, how do they know how far I live from the office? My log books have always just had start address and end address with mileage covered.

Yep, in my case its two things. The tax form filled in by the doc, and my medical aid statement. Have been disciplined at sending every bill to the medical aid even if they do reject it or say category expended as at least then their tax statement includes everything I paid for that they did not. Makes it a whole lot easier.

Was surprised that they did not audit me last year when I first claimed a disability allowance. My tax consultant was also surprised. Said perhaps because it was a fairly low amount that year.

One thing I could not figure is this. I did my tax return without the disability (but did not submit yet) and the provisional calc said I would get back R3500. Did that as deadline was in 3 days and was not sure the doc would get me the form in time. Got the form on the Thursday and added it to my tax return. Claimed back R17 000 in medical expenses that the medical aid did not cover. So I figured I would be getting back 30 to 40% of 17K, meaning total return of around 8 to 10K. Instead I got R24K back. Was not complaining but could not figure out how I got back more than the claimed 17K extra.

The only thing I could figure was that if you qualify for disability they change the 7.5% overall medical limit. My base medical aid payments are more than 7.5% of my salary so if that limit was increased I can see how it would have gotten to 24K but otherwise I was very confused. Anyone have an idea and can explain in laymans terms. The SARS documentation left me more confused tbh.

Would anyone know - have literally a few rands saved for our kids in investments started in their name.
So my few month old kid now gets a IT3B/C statement showing the two rand or whatever earned in dividends.
Do I need to do anything with this stuff? Obviously it's the parents paying the monthly debit order.

Nope. You need to earn over a threshold to pay tax and they are nowhere near that. Not even sure what it is anymore.

Hey guys,

This is my first time submitting my IRP5 and I am a bit stuck.

I tried registering for efilling but was told that a profile for me already exists.

So I phoned and apparently the reason I can't log in or register is because my address has changed.

I have just been to the Municipal Office in Umhlanga and apparently they cannot help me and I have to go to Florence Mkhize.

Is there any way around this? Surely I can send an email with all the required documents attached?

Thanks
