Day 3, verification not complete, no additional information requested, no feedback. I know my supporting docs are absolutely in order, I even provide more information than what is requested so that I proactively cover all angles. Thus far we have one person in here who has been verified and advised of refund date. Let's see what day 4 has in store. I do think that refunds over a certain amount (perhaps +R50k) are delayed for some or other reason. Just my personal experiences over the last three years or so.

They have up to 90 working days to come to you when they're verifying. Last year it took about 4 weeks - you may be lucky and have it completed faster. But if you do phone they'll tell you to wait 90 days.

that's correct, it's actually 30 working days for straight verification and 90 days for disputes. It's just not logical to continuously drag out a verification until the very last day just for the sake of doing so. They obviously take advantage of additional interest earned by dragging out big payments... Just an inefficient process that can be improved upon especially when the taxpayer is clean and provides everything and more upfront

I filed online for me and the wife on the 26th. I was selected for audit, my wife not. I submitted my docs on the 27th. Both shows assessment was done but no info on payment yet. ITSA just shows todays date with the amount due to us.

It probably depends on whose desk your verifications ends up. Verification means a human must check your stuff, but they often do it so quickly I doubt these people do nothing more than just check that you submitted all the docs and verify totals. Bearing in mind they can still audit you later.

I filed 25th, submitted all docs, no further change or communication from SARS.

I might go into SARS later this week if no change by Thursday. In the past, whenever I took in supporting documents to SARS personally and seen a consultant, I had my verification approved immediately.

Hi all,

Wondering if you can help here. I don't recall doing this on my previous SARS tax forms. I have a pension fund, not an RA, but I can't put in zero. Have I done something earlier incorrectly on the form?

For those who may stumble across a similar situation as mine where I didn't have medical aid for two months due to circumstances which I really had no control over, here's the verdict.

SARS ignores any medical incidents which you had to pay for out of pocket of course during that period.

That is correct, it is because of a very "clever" formula introduced by SARS in 2015 tax year which has the consequence of not being able to deduct any medical expenses if you do not belong to a medical scheme

Using Firefox on Mac, I have been battling to access my return and get this message below when i click on the "My Tax Return (ITR12)" link - busy preparing your form...

In addition to my mac, I have tried on a windows machine and getting the same error.

Has anyone encountered this issue? If so, do you have a resolution?

I ran all updates, however no luck. I’m not looking forward to calling SARS for assistance and being 200 in the queue...

Click the x in the "busy preparing your form..." box and then click in the open space left behind. Look on top of your browser and there will be a box to activate flash. Click it and then refresh the page.
