SARS E-Filing 2018

Calculation shows refund of around 13k due to you but it is pending verification/audit as per the lower part. Did you submit docs or receive a letter to submit?

Yes I was asked to submit docs and I submitted them. That was a few days ago already though so it's just stuck there. It says on my Work Page (home page thingy) my SARS Status is "Assessed". I just have no idea how long I'm going to wait and, like I said, I could REAAAAAAAALLY use this money! :D

Is there no way of changing the bank details on my current return which I haven't completed/submitted yet?

The only way to change the banking details on your SARS profile is to go into a branch. You can change it on your return, but a special stopper will be put on any refund due to you until you visit a SARS branch with your updated banking details.

I changed mine last year, got my refund and never had to go into a branch. Was I just lucky?

My SOA shows blank, even on IE ...Phoned SARS and the automated call said process takes 2 weeks.Number 148 in the line....

You will get your refund exactly 30 days after you uploaded your documents ;) Happened to me twice.

This year, no matter what I tried... -R 0.81

Bleh...

My eFILING status says assessment received.does this mean that all the checks are done and my return is on its way?

Good. Hopefully including my earned interest on it this time.

/Tinfoil hat on

What if, because they now have to pay out refunds within 7 working days once finalised, they are delaying everything up to finalisation to give themselves more time and delay things. That's how it feels.

All previous years I have been selected for verification and it was all done and dusted 48hrs later.

anyone banking with FNB,? What time of the day did you get your return?

Still have your passport from that time?

Yes, it shows departure and arrival dates. SARS reckon I need to "prove" I did not receive income whilst in the UK. Since I am not registered with HM Customs and Revenue, there is no documentation. I took along an affidavit from my cousin with whom we stayed most of the time. However, SARS want financial documents

But if you didn't live in SA you were a non-resident and wouldn't be subject to SA tax... This is weird.

I asked SARS what I should do before leaving and they insisted on a return each year. That is why I paid this accountant, to do that. If he did I cannot ascertain since he died and the partners who are running the business tell me there are no records remaining

Did the dead accountant not send you an invoice on the firm's letterhead? If yes, the firm is liable because they billed for services....

They might see it as under the threshold and pay you back the taxes on that period's salary. That's what I believe happened to me with one of my financial years, and I got about R4k back for that last year.
I never paid tax on it as I was working freelance/contractor and wasn't officially an employee.
