SARS E-Filing 2021/22

Both my wife and I being audited (she is audited every year).

Me for a R2k refund from them and her for a 70k refund.

Why the feck are they auditing me - LOL

Anyway, hopefully all will be clear by mid Nov
Haha the one year I was audited when I had to pay them R7.50

They requested additional docs to support my return. I sent them everything on 8 August. Last week, I got confirmation that the assessment was accepted with no changes. 2 days later, they sent a letter saying that my 2021 return must now be audited

I double-checked the 2021 figures and wraggies, I had forgotten to include a small amount for code 4214 (this code is well hidden and an obscure option must be selected in the Wizard before it appears). This results in me having to pay in R41 on the previous year's figures. Anyway, I submitted the revised return and the supporting docs. Now to wait and see if they are going to jail me for the R41 that I had previously hidden from them

Maybe not an audit, but they did re verify 2021 for a lot of people, myself included. It was finalized without changes and reponed numerous time before just being finally closed after I went to the ombud

This country is truly going backwards. SARS was the only thing that worked but it is also now farked. I've been doing my e-filing online for at least a decade trouble-free but this year they started doing the auto-assessment and the system is broken.

I open e-filing and see ITR12 "Estimation submitted by SARS", I click view return (the form where for the last 14 years I have been editing the details) and I see the form is locked. When I click "edit return" I get this kak. I first saw this months ago and figured it was a temporary problem but I see it still is an now it is past the deadline.1666885158157.png

I suppose I must stand in queues all day or pay someone to sort this out?

Mmm for 10+ years Ive been doing my efiling in November. Thought I would log in this weekend and get things going. Aparently not so much.

I've also done my own eFiling returns for many years, this year I decided to give TaxTim a try, and while it took a bit of getting used to, I think it was worth it (especially since I got my refund 6 days later without needing to upload supporting docs and the usual endless waiting, might be a fluke though, will see next year).

likely a fluke - selected for verification is random sometimes so using them or not using them has zero impact on that.

This was the first tax year where I didn't have to upload any supporting docs but SARS keeps on changing things.

All expenses linked to trade income are deductible. If this is for a salaried employee it's not applicable tho.

I don’t think you read my question.. I can claim my cellphone expenses but can I do so if I don’t have invoices for the airtime purchases, only what’s on the bank statement which does show my number as being the recipient.

Can you claim cellphone expenses bought from FNB if all you have is the bank statement that says MTN airtime and my number as the payment reference?

If not is there any other way to make that expense claimable?
Any ideas on the above?
Will a pdf proof of purchase suffice?

If you are a salaried employee it doesnt matter you cannot claim that expense. If this is linked to a trade expense its not ideal but you can highlight it on the bank statement as "proof"

175 days later / 123 working days. My dispute has now finally been allocated to someone after many complaints, threats, Ombud, etc.
Except, I now had to submit my employment contract, 12 months statements and all my payslips for 2021 period

Was selected for verification last month. Submitted documents immediately (same day).

Got the message saying someone should look at it within 21 days.

Haven't heard anything since.

Is there anything I can do to prompt them or make things go faster?

Phone in and ask for an escalation, they usually respond within 5 business days then

Day 177 - My case has now been finalized with SARS and all is now in order. Now a R1500 bill to pay the tax practitioner to sort this kak out.

Currently number 1168 in the queue with their helpdesk.
F this country really.

Snyper564 But in your experience will it past muster though because some people say if you have no documentation that states “tax invoice” somewhere on the page you are SOL when it comes to claiming expenses and they won’t budge?

That sounds like a bargain how can it only cost R1500, I’m assuming not much time to bill for just a lot of waiting around for SARS to respond?

Same like you and just got an SMS saying it's been completed. No further action required.

The tax invoice thing is for VAT. Making it a valid vat tax invoice.

Look I'm just saying try it you have nothing to lose. I have just submitted spreadsheets with details for 5 years no invoices etc. I did have supporting docs tho.
