SARS eFiling 2023/2024

Supporting documents issues have been the case for the last few weeks.

If you changed jobs and have more than 1 IRP5, then you most likely won't be auto-assessed.

I believe SARS will do the auto-assessments in batches. The status of being auto-assessed may change in the next 2 weeks.

Also if you do anything that requires a statement of asset and liabilities like being a company director or running a business as a sole proprietor will also not be auto-assessed.

Last year I got my assessment on the 4th will see how fast it’s this time, I’m pretty much close to the beginning of the alphabet in name and surname.

Your Query for Number XXXXXXXXX has the following outcome:
You have not been selected for Auto Assessment as, according to our records, you have additional information (e.g. additional income, expenses) to declare.
Oh great!
I was really hoping to get autoassessed without any issues.

Last year, I had quite the run around having to prove my medical aid contributions and then had to get an afidavit and submit 12 months payslips showing the deductions.

That's going to be hard since I have now left the country.

That's bizarre. The medical aid certificate you get from your provider should be all the proof you need. I've heard of them asking for proof of payment of out of pocket medical expenses but never for the actual monthly contributions themselves.

There's a spelling error on my surname with discovery which in order to get resolved needed an overly complicated process to be followed.
I think the mismatch in data beteen the certificate and what SARS has on record is the issue.

Eish, that sounds like a massive headache.

Selected for auto assessment this time

Go have a look at 3rd Part ceriticates, you can maybe see if you can pick something up there.

Hey guys, seem to be also selected for auto assessment. Quick question tho, the past financial year I have been paying for my parents medical aid which I am not a member of (they have their own medical aid membership but comes off my bank account) can I claim for these? If so what documentation would I require :)

You can, there is a special field for this in the medical aid section on the return if I remember correctly. You'll probably need to show proof of payment like 12 month bank statements etc though to prove that you paid for it.

The other option is that your parents can claim the credits themselves on their tax returns and then pay them back to you.

And ideally an affidavit from the main member confirming this.

Yes, no doubt. I would guess this a particularly tricky issue for SARS because they'll want to make sure that there's no double claiming between the main member and the person paying. You could easily see a situation where both the main member and the person paying claim the credits for themselves.

HI There

I have this and been doing it for years. I fill the info on the sars form , attached the Medical Aid Tax certificate and 12 months bank statements , showing the money going off. Had no issues at all

I have been with the same employer for more than 40 years, so just one IRP5. As you indicated it may be that I could possibly be in another batch.
