SARS eFiling 2024/2025

Directive is only a guidance based on historical returns. Yes, the lump sum is part of the total taxable earnings.

Only way around it, is if you made sure you listed all your deductibles like medical aid, retirement contributions, travel claims if travel allowance, home office and other costs if mostly commission earnings, etc.
the deductibles aren't gonna make much of a dent I'm afraid

will get a consultant's opinion and lube up I guess

Money you get back is just into your bank account. Has nothing to do with tax brackets and also doesn't get taxed. When you get it you can spend everything on a party.
the big amount owed is not owed to me, but by me, to SARS

and I'm sure some ANC fatcat will have a party with that money yes

I am confident that's not the case as this is now my 3rd/4th or 5th rodeo.
Grand Poobah "Anonymous" all hail yea who has been screwed over by SARS so many times that he is an expert now lol - you were right . my manual intervention status ended yesterday finally got email of generated ITA34 yesterday with adjustment, now we wait for the payout, it wasnt 90 days after all

Had to ask discovery for a it3 certificate, uploaded it yesterday myself, sars didnt ask for verification, just shows im getting a refund, noice

ooof ... completed tax return, saved and used SARS' calculator, showing a fat f-ing amount owed still

anyone have experience in receiving a lump sum payout in the past?

it looks like the lump sum pushes me into a higher tax bracket, but a directive was applied for and received for said lump sum i.e. the tax due was already confirmed with and paid to SARS

should that lump sum still affect total income and things like tax brackets then?

looks like for the first time ever I need to chat to a tax expert of sorts, the money "due" dwarfs any consulting fee

Did this year, but made use of retirement fund lump sum benefit. Amount was added to income, but did not form part of taxable income. So remained in pre lump sum tax bracket. Tax payed on lump sum was added to PAYE deduction.

There should be an it3a loaded from your provider with all the numbers. You would have paid tax when you took out the money and essentially should have no impact on your sars situation now. Its the it3a loaded on sars?

I'm really stoked for you. Still waiting on my end. You know what I find interesting? I’ve always done things by the book—paid my dues, got nothing to hide—and yet somehow, my affairs are always under the microscope. Meanwhile, HNWIs seem to get away with murder. I can’t even file a return with my modest salary without someone going, “laat ons sien.” But MaMkhize, Malema, and the rest? Their tax bills are enough to make you go WTF.

Has your SOA updated with refund issued transaction?

With a week left before my 21 Days, I see SARS has raised a new My Tax Return (ITR12) and REDUCED ASSESSMENT (Notice of Assessment). They are no longer expecting R1741.85 from me, but they will pay me R9494.67 instead.

I'll take that. From waht I see, I should get it Saturday/Monday

Okay, I got that wildly wrong. Statement of Accounts suggests tomorrow I'll wake up a HNWI
Code:
2025-08-01 32 Estimated assessment
2025-08-01 33 Reduced assessment
2025-08-20 34 Electronic refund
2025-08-19 Closing balance

Looking at the timeline, I will be paid approximately 20 business days after the second request for supporting additional documentation. I would have called them on Thursday if nothing. I wonder what took them this long

Jesus... why must they always **** around with the form(s). Either way filled in, saved, calculated, summited and accepted without anal probing. Now wait for returns...

Return done and dusted. 13th cheque expected now. Eish - so much sacrifice for 12 months to get to this.

SARS has a new tactic this year.

04/08/2025 - Submit return
05/08/2025 - Upload docs

21 Working day counter starts from when docs were submitted.

20/08/2025 - Case allocated to SARS official.

21 Working Day timer restarts for verification.

This puts it at 18th September for a response, and I can guarantee at the rate I am waiting, they will use the full 21 days.
Seeing everyone have their caes finalised quickly gave me hope.

In my experience they always use all of the days they are allowed, always.
