SARS efiling documents not opening solution- Chrome and IE

So we had this issue of returns and documents not opening correctly on efiling when using Chrome and IE. This is the solution that worked for us, and hopefully will work for you too.

Chrome browser

If ITSA’s ( and other docs) on SARS efiling aren’t opening ( a message appears saying you need to upgrade your adobe software, even after you’ve installed the latest version), do this:


Open Chrome,
in the address bar type “chrome://plugins”,
locate the Adobe PDF plug-in,
and click “Enable”.

Internet Explorer

If returns (IT12s, IT14s, etc) and other documents aren’t opening correctly, do this:

Click on “Tools” in menu bar
If menu bar is hidden, press the “Alt” key to unhide it,
click “Compatibility view settings”,
and add “http://www.sarsefiling.co.za/” to the Compatibility View website list.
*You may have to select the “Display intranet sites in Compatibility View” option as well.

another solution is to right click on the "you need to update" pdf, save it somewhere, go to the saved location and open it and the correct doc will display with all the right info.... go figure

if you using edge, click on open with Internet Explorer, this will reload teh page and you can just click on the pdf as normal.
In ubuntu, install adobe acrobat, download the file, the on commandline, acroread filename.
The last one was a saviour for me, as my primary workstation is ubuntu
