SARS still not going after the untaxed in those Billion Rand informal economies? They use South African infrastructure, they must pay tax. What about all the foreigners who have small shops all over the place?

They are going have to work, very hard to get those on the TAX hook, so not likely to happen any time soon.

As they generally trade with cash, there is no way to know how much they make any given month as there are no records besides what they declare, which is much less than what they make. The only trackable funds are the ones where they use pos terminals.

SARS can not tax what they can't prove.

So why don't they do something about it, or is that like too much hard work?

That is a dangerously incorrect assumption or idea.
They have always had the "pay now, argue later" mantra. They have also been taken to court and given a PK by the judge for doing exactly that- taxing people unjustly and unfairly.

For once I have no problem with mobs burning down SARS offices..... but then again that might be the pain meds talking.

There's no surer way to turn a taxpayer into an ex-taxpayer than to put them in jail for some minor infraction and make sure they will never be able to work again.

ANC doesn't care now does it. They want everyone poor and begging. African mentality is what it is.

I dont think they are putting people in jail for minor infractions.

If you look at it objectively, taxation is nothing more than a legalised protection racket where you pay the government protection money and in exchange you get to not go to jail.

Exactly.

And to think most people favour the idea of government because otherwise criminal gangs will take over.

No criminal gang would ever be able to extort the amount of money government can without being taken down by their victims eventually.
