Has anyone had any experience with sending supporting documents to SARS for personal income tax. I uploaded all my docs, how long did it take until your tax was finalised.

Everyone else I spoken to who didnt have to send docs got their refunds and final assessments with 2 days.

<still holding on at call centre>

Are you guys claiming big amounts that you are getting audited?

I have been waiting for more than 6 weeks now after sending my documents , keep getting told someone has been assigned to it and they are still busy with it and they don't know when it will be sorted.

Weird. Took at most 5 days after I submitted my docs. But then again, I only submitted 1. :p

I think there is a refund limit that if you reach it you automatically selected for audit - not sure though. My provisional refund is 36K, so I presume I went over. I also have some capital gains tax from a trust, and large medical deductions, so I guess I am a perfect candidate for audit. Anyway seems like 4 weeks is average. Call centre couldnt help. Thanks for the responses.

They have 30 days to sort it. you will receive your payment on the 30th day :D

I know, I've been through is 3 times ...

it is the very busy period now so SARS are extremely busy. if you want your refund paid early you must submit at the start of the tax season i.e. july.

Mine took about three weeks

Only if you call R3000 a big amount.
I submitted about two-three days after filing opened, so I guess they were bored and decided to randomly audit a few people to keep themselves busy.
