Racist attack

A R10 000 reward has been offered to anyone who can identify the perpetrators of a "racist attack" that occurred at the Springboks Tri-Nations match, the SA Rugby Union (SARU) said on Monday.

The attack happened on Saturday at the Tri-Nations Test between the Springboks and Australia at Coca-Cola Park in Johannesburg.

In a statement the union said together with the Golden Lions Rugby Union, they were pursuing all avenues to identify three white men who racially abused and assaulted a black female Springbok fan at half-time in the corridors of the stadium.

"There were 54 000 people in the stadium enjoying a thrilling Springbok victory but it takes the racist actions of a tiny handful to sour the occasion," Oregan Hoskins, president of SARU said.

"This was a despicable action by three men whom every Springbok on the field that day would have roundly condemned."

"But what's as alarming is that other supporters passed by without intervening."

Terrible stuff this. Especially the last paragraph. Would have expected this at Loftus more than Ellis Park (from personal experience).

Must really burn those knuckle-draggers that the top performers in the team are now of colour.

three white men who racially abused and assaulted a black female Springbok fan

Three on one and the one was a women. Some balls of steel there boys. :o

was also interesting to listen on 702 of the anecdotal stories told by other black fans that went to ellis park.

That is really sad!! But maybe it was 3 white Australian men.

Sad :(

Does SARU always offer a 10K reward for any act of thuggery or violence in a stadium or only if they suspect racism is the cause?

First off, ANY violence is unacceptable. But I find it astounding how they can pull the racist card now!

"I don't want them in rugby - they should stay away from our game," said Hoskins.

This after the racist black government forced quota systems onto our sport. Now they have a problem with racist people? Please

so are you saying they should condone the attacks?

No, they should condemn the attacks. The fact that three men attacked a woman is sick and they should be locked up for it.

But these things happen all the time. When emotions run high people do stupid things. Think about the soccer hooligans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soccer_hooligan :D ) overseas.

But to now focus on only the racist aspect is SICK.

IMO, it is a PR stunt. They are trying market the game to a larger market that is very suspicious of going to rugby games as every now and then, an incident like this happens. But this is the first time one has been reported from a Springbok game, it is usually provincial games. A while back it happened to some Cheetahs fans at Vodacom Park.

On a personal note, I love watching rugby, from the comfort of my home, where ish like this is not going to happen. :)

There is a major difference between three men beating up a defenseless black women and Jake being told he needs two more darkies in the team.

Good Lord, you honestly still have to join the dots for some people. :o

What's a poor female fan got to do with a gvt quota system?

what is worse is that the team won convincingly so I don't see how quotas can be blamed for this attack in particular:confused:

I'm not a rugby fan but I did hear on the radio that history was made on Saturday. Something about a South African scoring a record number of tries against Aus. Is this not an achievement worth celebrating more than the obsession with race and quoatas?

Rofl, now its a racist attack. I heard the lady call in on 702 while i was driving to work. She said they said "she doesnt belong there"... and called her the K word...

Bad manners, bunch of idiots, who probably had too much to drink and were looking to cause sh*t. Granted, they should have picked on someone their own size. But now to go and call it a "racist attack" rofl... comon

I find i funny how BEE and AA can be enforced, Vodacom shares sold ONLY to black people, and thats not racist - its called "empowerment", but my god, if whites do anything like this, there has to be a radio show about it, a reward of R10k, and be printed in newspapers headlines. What a laughable double standard.

The same footaball hooliganism you quoted is sometimes linked to neo-nazism in places like Germany.

you equate beating up a defenceless woman to BEE shares?
Why don't they beat up Vodacom by not making use of it's network for example or not attending matches at a stadium with a name Vodacom

My point exactly. This was about three men beating up a woman. Why not bring out a reward for R10,000 for information about the three cowards? Why fixate on the racist people that attacked the woman?

The woman has nothing to do with the quota system. The fact that men beat up a woman and now they pull the racist card is what bothers me. Would they have offered the R10,000 reward if it were three white men beating up a white woman or three black men beating up a black woman? No. The reward is focused on the racist attacks, not the attacks themselves.

Now they want to put up "anti racist" stickers on the seats? How the fook is that going to prevent attacks. They should put up "anti violence" stickers.

Anyway, who brought this entire racial tension to the game?

This forum has become SO predictable it's not funny. A news report like this comes out, and you will always have people saying "this has been blown WAY out of proportion", or "why is this a racist attack?".

Makes for fun reading though. :o
