SA's basic education funding cuts

The Budget Justice Coalition (BJC) argues that government is not backing up its claims that basic education is a top priority, as it is cutting the percentage of the budget that goes to this department on a yearly basis.

Yep, cut cuts cuts, and if it's not budget , they just change schools ppn, forcing sgb to try and find more money without support, especially public schools.

Simple solution. Is to close all the useless Education departments. Dont see the point really. Curro and similar does not have a bloated administration.

Give each school an income based on children successfully completing based on how many started (grade 1 vs grade 7) and high school (grade 8 started vs completing grade 12). Bonuses can be given for average mark achieved etc.

We actually just need an Inspection service that penalise errant schools where it hurts - their income.

The beurocracy is the biggest issue by far. Ever heard of schools having to provide back to the department from their funding to help out the departments funding, what a joke.

The one and only area this government should be throwing as much money at (with solid strategies to back it up) is the education system.

Spending money well on education is a generally money saving outcome.

Solve education and you solve so many future problems for generations to come.

We are not here to solve this FUTURE problems you talk about we need to allocate the money to more useful
stuff like cadre pockets

Ofcourse they will as it affects people who for the most part, cannot vote.

This is what happens when you run out of other people's money. This is what happens when you keep raising taxes. Laffer curve comes into effect and people simply can no longer afford to pay more. Tax generation then naturally declines, even with raised taxes.

Unfortunately all these so-called coalitions, cronies and even more so, government, does not know this. They do not understand this. So, keep cutting the budget of all government departments is the best they can do for now. Once this reaches a dead end, they can start focusing on getting rid of grant payments too.

You can throw a couple of more billions at education but I doubt it will make a difference. So long as the unions makes the call you will not see any improvements.

Lots of throwing in our politics, but like poo, what really matters is not the volume of projectile, but the portion that actually sticks.

Currently we sitting at around 30%? Does it really even matter if we make it 20%? Even 10%ers know how to stand in a queue for their handouts.

Good, it's about time they stop paying to raise more inbred anc idiots. In my day parents were supposed to provide a child with food for school, but now it's a free for all **** fest with parents making children as fast as they can be born because the state will pay for them. All child grants and school feeding schemes must be stopped otherwise this will be a tale of the ant and the grasshopper.

What are you on about? This has nothing to do with grants etc? This is the direct funding of the schools.

Problem is there are not people who know how to manage the funds. Same problem in medical and police.
Agree. In fact since most government department employees, dont actually do the work but outsource everything via tenders, we should just hire accountants/finance people, since that all government department employees do manage the budget and not very well. I am not talking about nurses, doctors, policemen and teachers, but those administrative posts which does not add anything where the service is delivered, i.e. at schools, hospitals etc.

School feeding programs is the one thing that actually works to lift people out of poverty. The children are innocent, and this gives them the opportunity to learn and become productive members of society.

Not having a school feeding program creates more of the problems you moan about. People will not stop making babies and they'll remain stupid and poor.
