I assume it is by unique monthly visitors & page views - which typically adds up to the popularity of the blog. I am however only speculating here...

I only really query because of the vast difference between the two lists. Clearly they are using very different indicators to determine popularity, but as you say we can only speculate.
 
I have to go with the second list. The reason for me saying this is that I know what sort of traffic 2oceansvibe was receiving a couple of years ago, and even if its readership hasn't grown at all, it will be far, far ahead of most SA blogs
 
I agree second list, not even heard of some of the the first ones. The so close blog even got an international award as being in the top 50 momblogs. So that is a sure winner. Chris's iMod gets many awards so I was amazed no mention on the first list.

I also want to know. There's a top blogger in the afrigator list (i don't want to flame it publicly) that regurgitates news from other popular blogs and news sites and even posts the daily weather report. The orginal content is just arb.

How it gets top blog status I don't know.

I write interesting stuff and my blogs aren't up there it belongs :p

The article doesn't even give links. I am sure if you google "cell phone reviews" the blog in question will be hard to find.
 
Another question.. How does it determine if its an SA blog btw?(hosting, location info provided, url etc) Just curious.
 
Your news page really needs an overhaul. You never post links, and it's not possible to comment right there on the article. Where are the links?

Well, you probably need to list on both yourself as a blogger... If you are not listed and your categorization is off perhaps, it could give you a different outcome. I think the big thing might be that these blogs are not necessarily listed on both...
