SA's most-liked printer brands

May I admit, the office printer I kicked the most?

SAMSUNG Laserjet (2nd worst was Lexmark). The Samsung always had issues and printed like a TURTLE. I had to plan a year in advance to print, or it felt like that.

Ricoh printers are work are great.

OK spoke too soon. HP OfficeJet 8600 from 2011 now gives a "The was a problem with the printer or the ink system" error after I replaced the 3rd party magenta cartridge with another 3rd party magenta cartridge.

Did a whole bunch of things but can't get it to print again. Haven't started cleaning the printheads yet...

1. Any recommendations for kits to clean the printheads?
2. Any advice to solve the above error?
3. Any recommendations for a new printer? I'd honestly prefer not getting an HP cartridge-based printer. But I do love double-sided printing and we also scanned double-sided a couple of times.

printers, pabxs and range extenders are all the devils work

oh and hp sux giant clown piles. epson or brother is the way to go

Just get an Epson or Brother ink tank and be done. Duplex scanning and printing are gonna cost a bit more.

Your HP has done its duty.
I am still using an Epson ink tank from 2015. I just print a page or 2 every so often to keep the ink running.

Yeah, handed it in this morning and the guy mentioned it might be the print-head that needs replacing. Those go for ~R2,500 and likely third party. And then the idea of paying that, plus continuing to buy 3rd party ink and risking the idea that it will just go belly-up again doesn't sit too well with me. Because there's no way I'm going to pay R2,500 for the complete set of HP ink cartridges.

Is the Epson print-pad replacement thing a real concern?

My wife's printed 5000 pages on our HP envy 7640 since September. It hasn't missed a beat.

Would you recommend an HP inkjet again?
What does the cartridges cost in the UK?
We subscribe to instant ink.
It's not the cheapest out there, but it's hella convenient. When the cartridges start getting low, a couple of new ones arrive in the post automatically.
If you're looking for economical, you want one of the ink tank jobbies - but remember the print heads don't last forever.

Really, so no third party cartridges on newer HP printers?

What about filling up original HP cartridges with your own ink?

I guess I have an older model because it takes third party cartridges.
I'm fairly anti-HP at this point for this reason.

I honestly haven't experienced too many typical "printer issues" with my HP 8600 and the third-party cartridges worked fine (had some weird colours here and there). Does irritate me that the first party cost R2,500 for a full pack, while a generic cost R250.

So my printer is bust - printhead needs replacement. R4000. Not gonna happen, might as well just buy a new printer at this point. Seriously considering an ink tank system (probably an Epson).

OK, so I read up a lot.

My family still prints a lot of colour (school stuff) so I'm leaning towards an ink-tank printer. I want duplex printing, and an ADF.

- Epson: most people seem to recommend it, but many people are also upset about the "ink pad end of service" or waste ink issue. Has this happened to anybody?

- Brother: Nobody really complains about Brother printers, but you don't hear too much about their ink tank printers either. How do they deal with waste ink?

HP: they seem pretty decent to me? Ink looks reasonably priced (gasp!) and since it is ink, there's no way they can lock you into it. Still deciding if I like the fact that you can replace the print-heads (they're not too expensive) - does this mean it is something that you will definitely be doing down the line? Some recommendations online that this is a good thing but there's a lot of mistrust in HP (and rightly so).

Canon: Doesn't feature as much, but generally it looks like their "maintenance cartridge" idea is well received. Fewer specials. Ink seems more expensive?

Thoughts?

I posted about Canon in another thread. No issues in the 4 years that I have mine. Ink is cheap too, only had to change it last year...

People like their printers? They're just the things I buy when I need more ink.

Do you have the Canon Pixma G7040 or the Maxify GX7040?
Pixma, bought this exact one.

Lmao, no idea what they're smoking with the price. I paid R6,199...

I saw that - that's why I had to ask! What a pity, looks like everything I need.
