Hey guys. I'm interested to know from any investors here where you think Sasol is going in the next two or three years.

You can see there current share performance here:

The first semester in 2008 saw their highest share price yet, I think one of the highest on the JSE at over R500.00 a share. Do you think we'll ever see this kind of performance from them again?

If I was asked by my father to give him advise. I would tell him that Sasol would steadily gain value over the next 2 months.

To answer your question: My personal feelings are that the share price would not likely see R500 again. I think it would find some sort of equilibrium around R350 over the next 2 to 3 years.

But I've been wrong a lot. :D

Plot the Sasol share price against the oil price. Then ask yourself if the oil price is going to stay at current levels over the next year or two.

I think that when the economy recovers oil demand is going to soar and so will the oil price. I predict Sasol being worth R500.00 in three to five years.

Thats fine. I just wanted to know what people think in general.

I currently hold a few sasol shares. It's a stable company with a fairly good dividend yield.

Thing is the US is in a drive to reduce their dependence on oil. That leaves coal, gas and nuclear/hydro as the other main players. Coal is seen as dirty to environment and gas has always been the 'other' natural energy form to turn to and seen as 'cleaner'. In eastern europe in particular gas is being turned to.

Sasol's main thing is CTL (coal-to-liquid) and GTL (gas-to-liquid) technology, GTL will be a big thing in europe and soon US too. I think while the US car companies still sort their stuff out, 3-5 yrs sasol should still do well.

Thing to watch out for is this.. Sasol is the world's BIGGEST CO2 single producer, i am sure there is regulations that will come in soon, so you have to take into account their changes needed

And the only threat they have is possible windfall taxes, otherwise they'll do well.

yup, kyoto thingie also means people will be buying CO2 vouchers :p but i think the cost of these things will go up very fast. SA gonna have issues soon with eskom's coal fire power stations too.. remember the time constraints to build new ones
