SAT-3 fault repaired

That would explain why my latency improved in early August and went to hell on Sunday night >.<

Well:
"A Telkom representative revealed in late July that the cable fault had no effect on local connectivity."

So i guess if your connection sucks, it's not the cable...unfortunately.

You misunderstood.

Removing 70% of Nigeria's internet connectivity (read: spam and con megatraffic) opened up and relieved some pressure on the SAT3 system.

Now, since the fix, the line is choked again with those countries coming back online.

Might not be what actually happened, but my original statement was logical in that light.

yah that's how i understood what he said.. but is that possible? I always figured it was on different fibres

The much touted "redundancy" of the SAT3 cable (SAFE) seems to only apply to South Africa.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I can elaborate?
