Hi there,

just got the new Explora decoder.

I read on MC's site that it could work with a Sat-Cr setup.

I screwed in the f-type connector.. It gives me good signal on Tuner 2 and 3. But nothing on Tuner 1, and it will not proceed with the setup process.

Is it time for a Quad-LNB upgrade, or is there something else I can try?

I would like to keep my my 1st generation 4 tuner HD PVR. Quad LNB into the DSTV switch, one Explora output to the Explora and the other 4 to the HD PVR?

Really wished I could keep using my Sat-Cr LNB.. it was quite an investment four years back, when they still were expensive.

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks, maybe he'll respond.

Haven't tried the switch.. as I've read on MC's forum site you should not use the switch with a Sat-CR setup..

Maybe it is worth a try.. my signal is 90 odd % on the 4 tuner HD-PVR.. so I reckon it is good enough.

Just weird that it picks up a signal on 2 of the tuners, but not the first. And the first is probably for the actual broadcast while the others for the EPG/Box office/etc..

Firstly, what SatCR LNB do you have? It should work on the Explora, but if you are using the SatCR for that, does it have twin legacy ports for you to run into a 2x4 switch? Because how else will you feed the the 4 tuner? If it does have twin legacy ports, I would run those into VL and HL on the DStv switch. Then you can run A to the Explora and 1 to 4 into the 4 tuner. No new equipment needed this way. If it does not have twin legacy ports, get a twin LNB and use that into the DStv switch.

Hi QT.

I bought this about four years ago, and installed it: http://www.hdcabling.co.za/satcr-un...view-dualview-decoders-legacy-port-p-278.html

Paid about 4 times as much as.

So no, only one legacy port. I have another dish (not yet installed) without a LNB. My idea was to set this up at the other side of the house (with a twin LNB), and connect it to the older PVR with a multi switch and run the heartbeat cable between the two decoders.

I take it nothing compels one to use the same dish for this kind of setup?

Or the other route is to go with a new quad lnb, and do the cabling again.. (But only did it a year ago, so...:()

I see you recommend a twin lnb.. will it be as stable as quad?

Is it worth considering quattro LNB for future-proofing?

Thanks for the response!

Yes, just get a twin. No need for a quad or quattro. Check on the DStv switch. Only 2 inputs are labelled for SA and IS20.

If you have to, you can run the two decoders from different dishes, as described.

Thanks for the advice.. It will save me some money not having to buy a Quad LNB. Just thought it would be "better" to use a Quad LNB.. one never knows what upgrade you'll need in the future.

Will order the twin LNB tonight..

Thanks
