Wouldn't satellite backhaul for cellular give you really bad latency?

2 words: Cable theft.

Guavamint was talking about liberating the Melkbosstrand landing station, but true to form, guavamint is anally-retentive and full of hot air bcos nothing has happened and now her Poisonous Ivyness & the DoC are chattering about a new West African coast cable [although I'm sure that the SKA project would max out all the bandwidth on any cable, with nothing left for consumers to use]...

I wonder to what extent, Vodacom and MTN and CellC temporarily use satellite bandwidth for their SA cellular base-stations...? - it does take Telkodemonopolies an awful long time to install backhaul links...?
