SauRoN's SomeWatt Solar Install

3x400W heater panels in winter is an easy 10-12kW gone.

It’s not hard to manage.

Add a bit of geyser use and 10kW is actually very low.
The heater panels explains it, those are banned in my house. We never actually used heaters even before we installed the PV system.

We are 4 people and use 7.5kWh currently from about 5:45pm (that is the current time PV is not sufficient to cover load) until about 8:30am (the time PV covers load fully).

Oh I’m not saying that’s the case for him just highlighting that something that seems small and not worth mentioning can contribute massively in this context.

10kWh overnight usage for 2 people is rather high, what do you have running using that much
No heaters, but multiple pc's, tv, 2x double door fridge freezers, normal load is around 700w.

So 5pm to let's say 8am = 15 hours, 10kw easily done.

In your case, the xbox one, the ubnt equip, pretty much everything in that area of the lounge contributes a chunk of that too. would be interesting to turn that all off and see at some point.

She’s a thick girl once she gets out of the box and onto the wall.

Opted for some boere engineering rather than chipping away the same plastered section by putting a backing plate at the bottom to level it out.

Right by the DB nice. Also that's a huge...

Hows the install @SauRoNZA ??
Very good going so far, roof part a bit delayed due to some bracket that wasn't playing along and they had to get a different one but they expect they'll have all the rails up today to just put the panels in tomorrow.

Inverter is up as per picture and batteries going in momentarily.

So theoretically could you use it as a UPS tonight? or will they wait to wire the whole setup?

Long day in between working and running after kids going swimming and what not in between.

Inverter is on the wall as well as batteries. But no wiring or conduit just yet.

Guys just left fifteen minutes ago and every panel is on the roof.

So tomorrow will be purely a wiring day and then in theory the job should be done.

And yes don’t mention that the middle battery doesn’t line up centrally with the inverter, I don’t need to hear it.

RS485 cable also arrived and so I installed the Sunsynk integration and immediately got a 1GB free space warning in Home Assistant so promptly ordered a new M.2 120GB SSD for my Chromebox.

I get by with gas heaters since many years ago, I have found them to be effective and efficient.

Nice!

I'm not sure if this is the correct drive for you or not - but Evetech (and yes I know it's Evetech) have killer pricing on these atm...

Needed the much smaller one; but got a Transcend off Loot for R4**.

@itareanlnotani @RonSwanson

Considering I have 14x450W all North facing in play would it make sense to load it all on one MPTT now and leave the other one blank until such time I want to add another direction?

Or is there a benefit I’m gaining by spreading it across MPTT’s with the two sections of roof in separate strings and rather changing it later should the need arise?
