Which is cheapest and most economical?

1. Run the pool pump for 6 hours a day during winter + add cost for pool chemicals

2. Empty the pool - thus no electricity & chemicals and carry cost of refilling again in summer?

Problem is I don't know how many 'units' in water or electricity either option uses?

If you leave a marbelite pool empty the marbelite will crack apparently. It needs to be kept wet.

If you have a 1,5 kw pool pump and run it 6 hours a day, you will use 9 units of electricity per day.+ - R 4.50 per day x 30 days= R 135 per month.

270 units.

I would never suggest emptying the pool for a prolonged period.... one major rain storm and you could have your pool above ground :-)

and it DOES happen.... the USS Penguin Pool:D

Yes, the fibreglass jobs pop out the ground if left empty for a few months.
I say Not a good idea.

If you have a quite Pool pump

Get a pool cover.

Run the pump without a pool cleaner :

1.5 Hours at 04:00

2.0 Hours at 23:00

Weekends connect the pool cleaner and run for 6 Hours/day.
