Saving for a car

When it comes to mileage guys, what would you recommend for a used car?I also heard some folks temper with these figures in order to sell the car. Is it possible to tell if the car has been modified or tempered with when it comes to mileage reported?
Don't waste your time with stories, look at the service history and compare it to the mileage, very important that the car has service history, even if it's not up to date but it should still be there.

At R80K you are looking at above 100k kms but below 150k kms.

Yes very easily, because the the service book will need to have all the stamps. Don't buy anything without full service history with the book stamped.

My car did not have service book, but it had original invoices of the services so that's fine also. Service book like R100 at dealership.

I would buy at around 100 000 KM to get decent price.

So, i can narrow down to chev cruz, i can look at hondas too, toyotas and ford. So far i have saved a bit of cash but i feel i should not jump into those super cheap cars i see on the internet for 15k. I do not want a car that will give me endless headaches.
Agree. Maybe pay in as much cash as possible and loan the rest with a short term as possible. Try to look for local adverts, friends, family, car mechanics for some good deals. Feel uncomfortable, walk away. Take your time.

When you see what you like. Take an experienced friend or mechanic with to check it out for you.

Personally I stay away from dealerships. They are snakes.

Ask for the full service history of the car, it might help determine if the odometer has been tampered with.
