SAWUG [Stellenbosch Wireless User Group]

Cgs

CGS.za.org

We are setting up the mesh at the moment. this week we are putting up the highsite on cyrus next to mcdonalds.

We will cover the whole of campus/private residences by the end of 2007.

This service will be very cheap. About R40 pm probably. Wugs are free but I believe our service will be much better.

keep an eye on wi9.co.za or cgs.za.org

ill put an faq on both soon.

we are online at the moment if you live near mcdonalds. also watch the coverage maps. we will try and update them asap as we grow.

When is stwug coming online, i'm ready and able.

One AP already online on this side of town. I can get onto quite a nice high spot, can see most of town. So LOS (except for the high suburbs) shouldn't be a problem.

Didnt you guys hear what savagedavid said? CTWUG has a highsite on botlary hill, that means clear los from stellenbosch and for free.

That is free as in free speech not free beer :D :D :D

Sorry could not resist...

Anyway yes the bot site is up. We are upgrading the existing routerboard to a new unit with 5 wireless interfaces. Unfortunately there is currently a shortage of 5ghz sector antenna's so only 2.4 for the next few weeks until stock comes in. There is nothing pointing towards Stellenbosch yet but if there is serious interest in joining I will point an 18B panel or something that way so long.

sorry to ask again, but where is botlary hill exactly. If it is where I think it is, I will be interested in joining. point something this way please ;)

Botlerey Hill is the large hill between Stellenbosch and the Northern Suburbs. You should be able to see it from anywhere in Stellenbosch.

A Real Stwug??

Well there's been lots of talk about a STWUG but the only thing that I've seen it coming down to is the WI9 wisp.

I'm planning on putting an AP on Dalsighof (the 3 flat blocks on the R44 as you come into ST from Somerset West). It should provide reasonable coverage for all the highpoints across town.

If anyone is interested pls reply here. I know a wug is a very expensive business. And funds definitely is a problem. But I beleive in asking for donations aimed at specific projects, like setting up additional AP, rather than asking a joining fee.

A WUG is a free network which anyone should be able to connect to. And hopefully if any private and especially commercial companies find it useful they will donate accordingly to help upgrade and expand it.

You can contact me at: spamgif [at] gmail [dot] com.

Nice work skaapgif, yea looks like to previous stwug fell apart or turned out to be a wisp. I know there is allot of enthusiasm in Stellenbosch cause we get allot of request to point a antenna that way, so guys help skaapgif in making this a success and we can maybe organise a linkup to ctwug for you.

Good work skaapgif! Come visit us! irc.jawug.za.net #wnet

I would just like to know if this site has anything to do with skaapgifs site.
If not you guys must get together and see what you could do.

We at CTWUG supports skaapgifs project and wants to link to them.

New site...

Yeah sorry guys, in the excitement there was a little misunderstanding - the site worked but the domains were still propogating and the mysql database had to be transferred.

That's all done now, and it should work :)... Please tell me if you still encounter any difficulties!
