Saying Goodbye to Gmail.

Nothing wrong with Gmail. Have also been using it since the dawn of time and use my own domain name (When Google still allowed it for free)

If you are going to go down the Proton route make sure you save your password securely and have have backups. It's one of the most secure email providers but this also means if you lose your password you are screwed. Not even Proton will be able to recover/reset it.

Sim swap or port? Sim swap only really shared with the banks afaik, and those security measures are only there for a limited time. Port could screw things up with OTPs not landing. But you are saying the OTP is not being accepted. That is abnormal.
Yeah. Something isn't adding up here

That is what we don't get, it should work, we had everything setup for it to work. We did not swap ISP we only went from a big SIM to a smaller SIM to fit the new phone. That is it. It should work and for whatever reason Google decided it is "**** us" day today. Got the message Google could not authenticate the account. So **** it I am not angry just disappointed. Both in steam and Gmail. You just can't trust something you can't drive to or at least call.

Have you tried doing all of this on the old phone? or at least generating backup codes, adding backup numbers/emails etc should be fine from an existing device. Will even work without the sim.

It is in the repair shop, if they can replace the screen without clearing the phone we should be in luck but it is a "wait and see" game right now.

If that happens they should not be in business.

Look it is a cracked screen to me, I don't know what else is broken. I am hoping it is just the screen.

Yeah, my statement still stands. No hardware fix requires the phone to be wiped.

Just take a step back and see what you did wrong. You need to teach your child to take responsibility for their actions and not always blame someone else.

Make sure every Gmail has a backup email linked to it.

Make sure you also store the codes if using 2FA.

Also put in a 3rd backup method.

Why blame Google for poor parenting?
Parental accounts have the ability to unlock a child account if you use Google Family Link.

Yeah but they are not using parental account.

Blaming google here is stupid.
The stupid thing here is the OTP and why it didn't work. When I created the account I a few years ago now I didn't even know parental accounts was a thing. I mean it is like walking into a nuclear power plant and saying if you don't know every detail because ****ing magic you are stupid. No one knows everything and the OTP should have protected against this **** but didn't. That is not on me. How many of you use OTP still? Thousand still use it because not everyone wants a ****ing App for every little thing.

This is why my extended family (on my recommendation) have Mweb as ISP and Mweb email accounts 😈 - when they have problems they can deal with the purgatory that is Mweb support - I concluded a long time ago that I don’t have the energy or inclination to deal with other people (especially extended family) IT bungling.

I have all my kids (and wife) passwords except for my eldest daughter who is a privacy freak (but doesn’t back anything up ‘cos she knows everything) but she’s a grown ass adult who will have to live with her poor choices in this regard.

Just give google some time to realise the old phone is no longer in use and then try again.

I moved to proton and am happy with the way they do things.

Refuse to use OTP where other options are available. Worst case OTP by email.
