Burger was banned for four matches at a disciplinary hearing that ran into the early hours of Wednesday morning after he was found guilty of a dangerous tackle on Samoa scrumhalf Junior Polu in South Africa's 59-7 victory on Sunday.

I'm thinking some English money changed hands here. How Schalk can get 4 weeks while phil vickery only got 2 weeks is beyond me.

It's frankly a shame.

Hopefully they can get the ruling overturned.

Whoa, Im curious what that American will get for that dreadful spear then? Pity for Schalk, I think he is still being watched closer than others for his earlier days...
Go Wikus :D

Meh, I'd be upset if it was Habana getting the bench. Hopefuly this will teach the big guy to be more gentle with the little people.

LOL, agreed.

But still, these officials are gonna turn this world cup into a farce if they keep banning players for nothing.

What a load of hogwash. It was not an exceptionally dangerous tackle. Also, because it is 4 games they have made sure he won't appeal otherwise he could miss the semi.

Not only do coaches have to worry about injuries, they also now have the midweek citing to worry about.

I can see it already, rugby world cup 2011, headline reads.

"officials vow not to repeat 07 citing farce"

idiots

Anyone got a Youtube/Zoopy link?

In other news:

Richie Mccaw banned for 3 matches after being found guilty for playing with his knees on the ground.

Dan Carter banned for 2 weeks after refusing to attend french luncheon.

Spear tackle got 5 weeks. Schalk is effectively getting a 4 week ban. So it's only slightly worse to do a spear tackle. May as well go all the way and wipe out some of the opposition with some spear tackles.

Why wouldn't they?

It seems they are appealing. The problem is what if he goes ahead and plays England and then the appeal is turned down. He will miss 4 games which means the semi as well. It's a risky call. They may push to have the hearing before the game or have him start serving the ban and then appeal on the chance that he can play in the QF. It's a big joke as Lima (think correct spelling) was not even cited for a viscious tackle).

Judicial Officer (JO) Terry Willis is an Aussie if anyone is interested.

Terry willis was heard saying:

I got him, i really really got him. While all those refs in the past missed so much, i terry willis got him. And, and, i'll get others as well, you wait and see. We have a saying back in perth, no sorry, probably in Sydney — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

You bet Ya, i got him //giggles//

What about Briam Lima's tackle on Pretorius? It was so dangerous he injured himself!

If we can beat the poms we are set for the semi's.. so hopefully this doesnt mean much...
