Schalk Burger given 4 match ban

I think that image makes it look worse than it is. You need to look at the entire situation to put it in context. He was attempting to play the ball, where he went wrong was once he missed the ball he played the man in the air. Theoretically that is a dangerous tackle and deserves to be penalized.

Dangerous Tackles - To be treated at the upper end of foul play scale (red card, and work down, not the reverse)

I understand that they are trying to stamp out dangerous tackles but you need to look into the situation at hand. Never did that incident by any stretch of the imagination deserve a red card, possibly a yellow at most.

In all likelihood, we won't really need him till the final. We just need to beat england to make this a reality.

quarter final - we'll probably play wales.
semi - probably Argentina, or Ireland if i remember correctly.

This england game is getting more important buy the minute. Here's hoping Wikus plays his heart out.

If we loose against england, and we end up playing the aussies in the quarters, without schalk the aussies will stand a very good chance. Schalk is our engine room.

Trouble is we are 1 game into the world cup and we are 3 key players less.

De Villiers
Spies
Burger

All 3 stars in their own right. Although Spies was out before the first whistle, this attrition rate for the squad is not sustainable.

Did you see the tackle he made on John Smit? We were awarded a penalty but he was not punished.

Ridiculous is it not, but remenber the previous time we lost a key player, our friend JAMES DALTON and! Pieter Hendricks(no loss really), we won the thingy!

LIMA should have been sited and banned-double standards as uasual...,
Prior to the WC suspension times for offenses should be in place, if soccer can lead the way rugby should have worked this out already...

Wickus will do his bit I am sure... Steyn on the inside, it is my honest belief he is going to hurt the defense... With Spies they at least knew the probability of him going was very low...

Schalk Burgers appeal set for Thursday morning at 8am.

Agreed

Steyn is a bit of a coin toss. While he can provide that spark of genius which makes him an excellent attacking player, his defense, as well as the odd poor decision(to clever) could loose you the game.

I still think he is the right man for the job though.

As we all know, defense can be fixed in a week. It's mostly a question of attitude. eg look at the Argentina France game.

If he has a bad day at the office, and let one try through. He can, and should generate more than one try on attack. His impact in this area was clearly seen when he replaced deviliers last week against samoa. It was around that point that the tries started to flow.

Interesting comments from Jerry Collins regarding the citing issues and the tournament in general.

Some extracts
"It's a long way to come for your tournament to end early, but what can you do? Like Schalk, you go in low and then clip him high. In that game you could have cited 10 people.

"It's just the luck of the draw who gets picked up and who doesn't.

"It is like having someone looking over your shoulder. You have it in the back of your mind, but the game is brutal and these things happen.
