Actually, it isn't. a Nuke also mashes all the atoms/etc together - that's the principal and reason why it cause so much destruction.

the plutonium and stuff is surrounded by explosives, which compress it upon detonation - and plutonium atoms don't like all that instant compression, and expands rapidly.
 
Mini black holes is a bit misleading. The black holes they will form are more than mini.. they are actually miniscule. Simularly to how neutrino can travel through km's of solid rick before they hit anything, the mini black holes will do the same.

Think of them being the size of a match stick on a rugby field, and in order for them to absorb anything they have to actually hit the posts while moving from one side of the field to the other.

He also submitted his theories for review before running to the media.

And again the same Einstein was on the wrong side when it came to most of quantum physics. Him being "the smartest" and also having lots of support.

Yup, he admitted it as the greatest mistake he ever made. He hated the perceived randomness of QM.

But yes I agree that "those 3" should have their work reviewed by a panel and also published if indeed it is true :)

They may very well be right, and if so.. why go to the media and not undergo peer review? I dunno the specifics.. but ya I dunno. There were scientists who said the H bomb would set the atmosphere on light.. it didnt. So yah... right now Im treating this news very very carefully and until an authority says otherwise.. I will keep treating that information skeptically.

Actually, it isn't. In fusion bombs everything gets mashed together to go boom. In fission bombs the atoms break apart. The compression causes the bomb to reach the critical mass of whatever substance makes up the bomb which then causes it to go boom.

Well, first off, they do get it published, and the paper is on the arXiv and out for peer review. The quotes in the article come directly from the paper, not from an interview.

Actually, it's the Fox News writer who gets it totally wrong. The paper authors do some calculations and find out that even if black holes are created and go through the Earth it still would make no difference. They would not swallow us all.

Bring it on ... would love to see a black hole for a couple of milliseconds before I fall into the Event-horizon, or get pulled apart by the gravitational effects ;)

BTW, I heard from Claire this morning, The LHC will be starting up this as planned, and they also expect to have collisions before the end of the year. So we should know soon enough (or at least know enough for them to start researching the data)
